That's the question that a lot of people are asking. Why are the new technologies so expensive?
Well a typical DVD disc can only hold 4.7 GB of information, which is why there are so many movies that offer special editions utilizing a second disc - there's not enough information to keep the resolution of the movie, and high fidelity sound at their highest output, so a second disc is required. But you can hook a DVD to practically any television.
When it comes to Blu-Ray and HD DVD players they are similar in that they will both output a High Definition image from a disc, but differ in many other ways. Blu-Ray and HD DVD discs first off can hold up to 10 times more information that a typical DVD so now you can have tons of extras on a disc (commentaries, deleted scenes, games, behind the scenes, easter eggs, etc), while having up to 1080p lines of resolution and up to 8 channels of surround sound - a typical DVD can not do this.
Between the two formats you will hear many people picking one over the other, I personally prefer Blu-Ray because more movie studios are backing it, and the disc has more capacity (Blu-Ray up to 50GB, HD DVD up to 25/30 GB). There will be more Blu-Ray movies, and more Blu-Ray compatible players, as well as the Playstation 3 that offers Blu-Ray as well.
The price is high at the moment because it is new, as was DVD. I paid $600 for my first DVD player, and now I could walk in and get the current generation unit for $120, and other brands for $40 - $70. Blu-Ray and HD DVD will drop, technology always does. First thing you should do is get an HDTV, then decide which of the High Definition Disc formats is right for you.
I hope this helped.

Blu Ray holds more data. But i hear that HD can have special features for the DVD, in Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift You can change some of the car colors. Other than that They are using the same video compression so they will look the same. Just make your decision on what movies (Certain movie studios are aligned with a certain format) you want and some special features like with HDDVD and ability to change the movie ( I heard a rumor About being able to map a picture over some of the characters in the movie so you can put you face on the main character in the future). I havent heard about many special features with BDDVD, They just keep toughing size.

Frankly, we would desire to continuously all comprehend that the completed HD craze, whether it somewhat is Blu Ray or HD DVD, is barely there for each and all of the final studios to make much extra funds on you than they have already. This has not something to with one being extra helpful high quality than the different. Its approximately funds, Moola, funds, income! They the two look amazing! yet so does a DVD... except you own a 45in liquid crystal reveal reveal. think of of it this form human beings; we could say you're a action picture collector who owns 3 hundred DVD's? nicely now you own all your admired movies, and there isn't any rationalization so which you would be able to purchase from now on different than for the occasional new action picture that strike you as a classic keeper. So the studios have lost you as a shopper. And what could be their ultimate thank you to learn you lower back? How approximately inform you, "Your contemporary format is previous and crappy and actually unwatchable in case you're a 'authentic action picture buff'. So purchase this new HD format!". yet how can we get human beings to purchase those new DVD's? the studios ask. How approximately advertising 40 8 inch television's for a cost that each and every physique pays so there contemporary sequence sounds like crap? Booya! area a million. we've considered it in the previous with Beta and VHS, VHS and DVD. And now DVD to HD. the only difference between Bluray and HD DVD is who may be the employer that gets to exploit you for all your worth, and for this reason the winner seems to be like Sony. basically anticipate it. the subsequent flow, each and every physique will would desire to purchase an HD cable terminal to get a advantageous selection for his or her soccer and hockey video games/spouse replace. stay with the 30 in television and shop your DVD's! Why can we would desire to make certain the nostril hairs on Marlon Brando's face in any case? it somewhat is tale, direction, manufacturing and performing that make a action picture large. do not purchase in to this crap.

At this point, blu-ray is the better technological option but more expensive. IF you HAVE to have one, go for HD. That way if things dont go in your favor, you will lose less money.
It is still too early to tell which format will win out - both have good libraries of films.
Good luck

When you drive your car, do you know what type of oil is right for your car? Should it be synthetic or not? You don't care as long as car is running. In the same manner, view the both DVD format and identify which format is widely used for Hollywood movies. Look at the reception and pick one.
