Does anyone know the approximate cost of the buffet dinner at East Manor in Flushing? We're looking to have dinner on a Saturday or Sunday evening at the Kissena Blvd. location. How is this restaurant?

We ate at East in Flushing about five weeks ago. It was a Saturday night and there were four weddings (there are small rooms and other rooms are curtained off - interesting to see. It cost $27 per person; the tip was already added to the bill (calculated with the tax), do be sure to take that into account before and if you leave an additional tip. There is a huge amount of food, but, frankly I don't care for a lot of it. There are a number of "Italian" dishes - not a wise choice. What I stuff myself with is lobster with scallions and ginger (you have to keep an eye out for when they replace the tray because this goes very, very fast), steamed crab legs and shrimp with walnuts and mayonnaise. The sushi had no taste. Be sure to try the shark's fin seafood soup - that's really good. The dim sum was good. The desserts looked better than they tasted, but do try the cold soup with melon balls. There's a carving station with peking duck, roast beef and whole salmon. You can get some foods cooked fresh for you. You hand the chef the raw steak or fish and tell him how you like it. The Asian greens are delicious and, if they are hot, the Japanese sweet potatoes are great. The waiters work hard, but they aren't overly friendly. All in all, it's an interesting experience.

i've been there as well and it is not particularly good.

Joe's Shanghai just off of Main St. is much better for the soup dumplings (to die for). Gala Manor is also good, with a huge menu but probably about 30$/person.

Here is a link to a Chowhound post that has detailed reviews of the restaurant.

And a review from Newsday:

You might want to call ahead just to confirm the price, as it may have changed for 2007.
