I moved my computer into a different room, and it worked fine, i brought it back into the original room, and all of the sudden, the cd-rw is unrecognized. Ive opened it up, and all the cables are tight, but it seems like the software has disappeared. How the hell does moving a computer erase software? I didnt drop it, i didnt shake it, i moved it into another room, like you take a newborn into another room.

Did you try searching for the drivers online? Or call your computer customer service line, if the computer is still under warranty they will help you for free, if it isn't then they may charge you. Obviously if worse comes to worse, go buy a new drive and install it yourself, it's pretty simple, or ask a friend who knows about computers to help you.

Ha does it make a funny noise? check gears and cogs for debris.
About time you updated to dvd-rw anyway, they're dirt cheap now. Try clicking on drivers and reverting back to one that worked or summin, sounds like a driver issue.
Try starting again, add the software again and add the cd drive like you add new hardware. Try opening a cd in windows media player as this is a secure way of testing, some cd-roms may be unreadable.
hope this helps
