I Purchased a 07 Toyota Prius 3 weeks ago, I traded a vehicle in. Today I receive a call from the dealership saying that I didnt get approved on the new vehicle. I put 1400 miles on the new car, which had 10 miles on it. Will they have to give me my car back and will I have to pay for the miles I put on this new car?

You will have to find alternate financing or return the car. You should not be responsible for the miles you put on the car. They should have confirmed the financing before they let you take possession. My wife is a title clerk with a dealership and they had a similar situation, they actually put their customer in a less expensive vehicle. Now the finance officer has to get the finance companies lien removed and have the title put back into their name and get the sales tax refunded from the state. Not a fun process let me tell you. Don't let them try to charge you for those miles, if they do, get your attorney involved.

You didnt get approved for what- financing?
You will have to talk to the dealership again. Usually, they will not let you out of the lot without a firm approval from the lending institution. So if they did allow you to drive out, someone in there had banked a lot on your good will and good credit.
This person or persons (most likely the salesman and the dealership manager) will have to solve this problem they got into by trusting you a lot.
You can probably work it with them by providing more promises, etc (eg, a guarrantor)

I dont see any problem with returning your car, but if I were one of those people, I would probably want you to work harder to prove to me that you can pay for your car instead of returning your old car back.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard! (Not insulting you......but the dealer...)

Shouldn't they have checked that BEFORE they let you drive away in the car?

I don't know......it would seem that they would have to give you your car back........and I wouldn't give them a thing......sounds like their mistake.

Wow......
