They all have the same fundamental logical thinking patterns and technical basis. Beyond that, think about what you enjoy the most - building? chemistry? computers? motors?

You can always specialize in one and change majors if you find it unbearable later on - many of your college courses should support all of the engineering disciplines.

I can tell you right now that power electronics and industrial process controls (automation?) engineers are in demand significantly more than the others. You'll probly find a few jobs in comms but they seem to ask for more industry experience than the other. That's how it is in New Zealand anyway, I would say at least half of the electronic engineering newspaper adds are for Power/PLC technicians etc. But hey, do what you enjoy, I did micros and comms and I don't regret it... although I don't have a job yet either...

Research the future of the career, choose a stable specialization and then choose what intrigues you.

I chose Environmental Engineering because I am intrigued by the science of water treatment and know that clean drinking water is a worldwide need of growing importance.

From my assessments of trends, I would suggest to you: telecomm / IT.

The integration of complex systems is a great challenge globally and M&A's require these skills as the world continues to function on this integrated and advancing platform. Communication is everything.

remember that, regardless of what the current time is indicating, that mankind is destined to colonize space eventually... some specialization that would help in colonizing the moon and other inner planets would probably be most useful for man as a whole

PIck what you find most interesting since you'll be doing it for a long, long time. If you can get an internship or two, that may help you decide also.
