Well it took me a good two years to get my short hair to long. I kept getting it trimmed every six months to keep it healthy and strong. If there was a answer to make your hair grow really fast boy who ever finds that out will be rich rich rich. No just keep your hair in really good condition and when you find there is bits sticking out here and there and you are tempted to cut it just tie it back . I kept mine tied back till it was long enough to get cut a nice straight line across and all the layer's where one length.

Well...be patient...
Use good shampoo and conditioner, to make sure your hair is strong. So you don't have split ends, be sure to use a comb and not a brush on wet hair. Using a brush on wet hair can pull the hair, which can break or stress already-stressed hair. Better yet, run a comb through your hair while still in the shower!

Just get it trimmed regularly every two or three months. This gets rid of the dead ends and damaged hair and allows regrowth. It's definitely the fastest and easiest method.
