The Future is Wild aired again on Animal Planet last night. Basically, a team of scientists projected how animals on Earth would evolve and how Earth would change 5, 100, and 200 million years from now, after humans are extinct.
Well, a few of my relatives find the idea offensive, even anti-religious and anti-God. I really don't see why, aside from the scientists' acceptance of evolution as a fact. Their offense went beyond that, too.
This is what I'm talking about:

Do you find it offensive? If so, why?

I'm not offended; I love this show and watch it every time Animal Planet airs it. I also have the book.
And I figure, we'll all be gone 5 million years from now anyway, one way or another.

To be offended by speculation is a bit petty is it not? It is known, verifiable, observable fact that the world is older than mythology would have us to just "believe on faith". This being the case it would only stand to reason that in the future, there will be no "mythological superman" to come "down" to earth and "save" us. This leaves us to determine our own destinies, whether that be self destruction, or peace and harmony with the planet that gave us life.
Speculation on the future can be made by anyone, educated or not, but it is only speculation and can not be taken as fact until enough time passes to allow verifiable and historical observation. To be offended by speculation is childish and ignorant. Observe the world around you, accept your place in it, and learn all that you can, for it is knowledge that truly is the ultimate goal of us all.
Live and let live.

I love nature, and no it doesn't offend me, but I would not believe everything a scientist says to be true. Most don't believe in a supreme being. It's easy to say things will change 5 to 200 million years from now....that's a very long time from now, and they will not be around to be proved right or wrong. It is funny though, how it's okay for a scientist to predict the future, but when the bible does, and has 1000 of prophecies proved true, it's hog wash.
I hope to be among the "meek that inherit the earth and live forever upon it", I may just be alive 5 to 200 million years from now.

I do not find it offensive at all. I do see how the unenlightened religious folk would take offense to it since it leaves their god out of the future picture. It seems to be much easier for the religious folk to not have to actually think and reason about the future of humans and this planet. They just hide behind their fairie tale and believe that some god will take care of them.

Of course it is not offensive. On the other hand, I do not agree with the concept of the show. I am an atheist but I am convinced that humanity will survive for millions of years to come, and will shape the future of the planet itself, for better or for worse.

Hey.. I think i saw that programme too.. they showed that a lot of area will be ocvered in ice and there will only be animls who could survive extreme cold.
Well i didnt find it offensive.. We have to agree that Humanbengs didnt exist since the begining of life on earth. If there had been no evolution humanbeings wouldnt have come into existance.
And 1 who comes here has to go from here too. Thats nature`s law. I dont see any thing offensive about it..
It doesnt mater to me cuz i wouldnt be here to witness all that.

I've seen The Future is Wild, and I don't find that show offensive in the least. In fact, I think it's kind of neat! I've often hypothesized in my head as to what the future would look like myself.

I think it's silly when Christians take offense at scientific theories like evolution. Just because they can accept the creationism theory with only the Bible as evidence doesn't make it true, and doesn't mean that anyone else will believe it solely based on Bible verses. I think it would be beneficial for everyone to educate themselves as much as possible on creationism and evolutionism. That way, you can come to an educated conclusion for yourself, and you can explain why and how you arrived at that conclusion without looking like an idiot.

As long as there are alternative view points to the Christian Fundamentalists than they will take offense to it, because if the are alternative views than there will be those who chose them.
They wouldn't be as offended if the people saying this were not scientists with high levels of education. They find that to be threatening.

Absolutely not! Anyone that thinks it offensive is just totally ridiculous. I believe in the theory of evolution as it is a far more concrete and believable concept than religion. That is just my own opinion, each to their own.

It's just scientific speculation. Evolution is real. Even if you believe in God and creationism, everyone knows some critters evolve in minor ways to adapt to their environments. I didn't see the show, but it sounds like it was probably interesting, or entertaining at least.
