I wouldn't do it, but I'm a picky type who thinks the Glock 10mm is the ultimate pistol and I have one in my pocket as I am typing this.
When I hunt I use bolt action rifles. I have 3 Ruger Model 77s, a .223, a .308. and a 300 Winchester Magnum. I'd take any of them over anything that shoots the .357 Sig. If a pig charges me at such a close range that I don't have time to aim the rifle, my Glock 10mm is the last thing the pig will see, and I'll pick up my Ruger after the pig is dead.

I would not use it as my primary pig hunting weapon. Probably OK for backup, though. In fact, I wouldn't even use a .357 Mag as my primary pig gun.
The .357 Sig is probably a good manstopper (the jury is still out) but smallish for game. On paper, at least, the .357 Sig rivals the .357 Mag performance. The mag still gives you more variety of bullet weights & barrel length.
Use a .44 Mag if you want to handgun for pigs, or at least a .10mm.
Best,
H

I absolutely agree with that Jack guy second from the top. The 357 sig although extremely high velocity is still just a 115 grain 9 mm bullet. Bore are toughs little bastards and after having been charged and my 45 ACP literally bouncing off the sucker's head i hunt bore with a RIFLE and a rifle only.
Although. i would feel confident with the 10mm in a M1911 at my hip.
Leave the 357 sig at home or keep it holstered and get a lever action rifle. Too much is too much, but too little is never enough.

Personally, bad idea. The round may be powerful enough but
only marginally, in a hunting caliber I want an excess of power to ensure a clean one-shot kill, not a hedged bet.
Nothing less than a .357 mag with a 6" barrel (357 Sig replicates short 4" barrel performance of light loads) and 10mm would be your best bet in a semi-auto.

Bad idea. The Sig round does not have the bullet mass that hunting .357 magnum rounds have to reliably take deer and hog. I am not saying they cannot kill a hog or deer, just that they are not a realistic choice. In .357 magnum I would not hunt with less than a 158 grain JSP and would prefer a 180 grain bullet like the Winchester Partition, the Remingtion JHP or the Federal hardcast bullet.

.357 Sig is just another caliber. For any particular model, you generally won't pay extra for the gun in .357 Sig. You will pay extra for the ammo, as you already know. I was all set to troll you with that rather idiotic opener question, but when you clarified, I took just the slightest amount of pity on you. Then you went and spouted off like you got a pair. So I'd just like to add that you need to download the video "I Should Have Swallowed: A Parent's Tale Of Pain And Regret" for your mother to watch with her sewing circle. Make sure she knows how to use the slo-mo feature on your video player so she learns it all thoroughly. That way your parents won't make the same mistake again.

Bad idea....357 MAG...that'd be a good round, but a .357 sig doesnt have the power for a hunt like that.

.357Sig is a combat only round for starters. And in Ohio, even a .357 magnum is the bare minimum for deer, and it's controversial among those who think that .41Magnum should be the real minimum. Handgun hunting is legal in most states, but check the laws in your area in regards to handgun hunting and caliber specifications. In Ohio, handguns for deer must have at least 5" Barrels and be .357 magnum at a minimum. Long range shots are not common in Ohio, so it is a good place for handgun hunting. You cannot hunt deer with a modern rifle in ANY caliber. Muzzleloading, shotgunning, and handgunning ONLY for deer as far as guns are concerned.
