your skin is dry around the etching..this is normal
drink plenty of water and keep the tattoo covered with a thin layer of Vaseline
try not to scratch it till it heals completely

Make sure you are well hydrated in general. People do not realize that dry skin comes from within. Also, talk to your artist about using a cream or ointment that is for treating itching. THere may be a good one that will not compromise your tattoo. Be sure that your skin is taken care of before you go in as well, lotion up often. Hope it goes well, i have 5 and i know how it is...

I'm afraid you will just have to suffer through it, we all have. Keeping it moist with ointment does help, if possible keep clothing and hair from brushing up against it. Try not to think about it.

Do not scratch. You are going though all this for a nice piece of artwork, don't run the risk of ruining it by digging at it with your fingernails. You may mess up the outline, you could even cause an infection.

healing tattoos just itch. there is no way around it. it's a natural process of the skin healing. if the tattoo didn't itch i'd be worried about mine. but you shouldn't be getting any further work on the tattoo until it is completely healed and that means not itching any more. good luck!

all of mine itched like crazy for a few days while they were healing, but if you think u are having a reaction to the color, then see your dr before getting the shading done. My tattoo place has me use Bag Balm on all of my fresh ink

Use cocoa butter. Not body butter and make sure that it isn't scented or that will just make it worse. While it itches, if you go to the beach or it is out in the sun, put a little bit of sunscreen on it. This should take care of the problem.

SMACK IT! lol. I know it sounds retarded but I smacked the skin NEXT to the tattoo, not the tat itself, and I guess it distracted me from the itching, and felt a hell of a lot better than feeling itchy.

Sounds as if you may be having some sort of reaction to the process. Since you don't want to develop an infection, visit your doctor before having the next step done.
