Is it considered bad luck to put on the wedding band before being married? I just got engaged (!!) and he showed me the wedding band. I want to put it on but don't want to deal with any issues of bad luck..let me know your ideas.

Just in case...I just want to try it on to see what it looks like, I don't plan on wearing it for any longer than that. Does that change any answers?

Congrats on your engagement!

I can imagine how excited you must be. We got engaged two years ago and just married this past July.

My husband picked out my engagement/wedding band set, and I adore it. Of course, I had to try it on!! I immediately had to know what it would look like once we did get married.

Also, when I took it to the jeweler's to have it soldered before the ceremony, I had to try it on both before and afterwards in order to make sure that it fit right. You can't have your wedding ring not fit!!!!!

Personally, I've never heard of bad luck being associated with trying the band on first. WEARING the band, now that might be a different story. But just a quick second or two shouldn't hurt. Besides, you two are in love, a little superstition won't get in the way of your happiness.

Best wishes~

I've never heard of a superstition about that... and it really is best to make sure that it fits. Besides, unless YOU BELIEVE it will be bad luck, there's no problem.

By the way, if you're superstitious and actually believe some of the "good luck"/"bad luck" stuff, you should be aware that there are all sorts of contradicting superstitions out there - some people believe it's good luck if it rains on your wedding day, other people believe that it's a portent of doom.

Congratulations, and go make your own good luck!

How are you suppose to know if it fits or is comfortable unless you try it on??? Wouldn't you rather know it now than to put it on on your weding day & have to take it to be resized?
This is just SUPERSTITION. Besides, it's not the ring that makes a marriage.

And realize, too, that the rings may not fit on your wedding day. Fingers swell when nervous. So each slip the ring (s) to the knuckle & each inconspicuiously push their ring the rest of the way, when able.

No, it's not "bad luck"... Unless you believe it is. Of course you have to try on your wedding band to make sure it fits - and have it re-sized if it doesn't.

If you're worried about it, don't do it. However, if you don't believe in stuff like that, try it on.
