Well if you have already gave him hints like you say and if you have made it obvious to him how you feel then wait for him to do something.....If he doesnt do anything...well sorry to say but thats because he is not interested so as hard as it is just move on!!!

I would say go for it, as long as you think he likes you. If it turns out bad, dont worry there are plenty more fish in the sea love.
Sometimes men are too laid back or shy or some dont want to ruin the relationship of friendship incase you say 'no', so i wouldnt wait for him, if you like him GO FOR IT!
