Usually I would say paint the darker color first. That way if you get some of the light color on the darker, it won't show up as much.
Since you are putting a lighter color on the ceiling and darker on the walls, definitely paint the ceiling first. It will be much harder to work around freshly painted walls then if you paint the ceiling first.
Paint the ceiling, give it a day or two, then paint the walls. You will save yourself some trouble while moving around. Buy a good edger for where the walls meet the ceiling and make sure the ceiling is dry before you paint the walls.

Ceilings are painted a white or off white in order to reflect the light to make it brighter in the room.
Paint the ceiling first, then the walls. Don't use tape for the ceiling/wall intersection, as paint will run behind the tape and you can lift the finish below the tape. Use a steady hand to cut in the color of the wall and paint the walls LAST. Always work from top to bottom.

Paint the ceiling first..
Imagine a nicely painted set of walls as you roll the ceiling with a new color. Won't those drops and splatters look good on them?

I think it would be best if you did paint the ceiling first, just make sure to cover up the sides and corners of the wall that meet the ceiling, you would want that to be painted , too. Just make sure ur ceiling is dried before you paint your walls, so you can cover the ceiling, too.

Doesn't matter if the ceiling is darker, or not. When you paint the ceiling, you can't avoid having splatter onto the walls, so paint the ceiling first.

I would pant the cielling first to avoid darker spots splashing from the walls on the cieling if you get the cieling paint on the walls you can just paint over it.

I would paint the ceiling first and let it dry, then tape it off and do the walls.
