No, it is a developing country, indeed it is growing much more than other europen countries. Turkey dosen't need europe, because there are enough resources to bring it to the level of developed countries in the next 20 years.

Is Turkey a third world country?

I would answer that Switzerland is a third world country because in switzerland, when you say "there is no Armenian genocide, it is only a so-called propaganda of poor Armenians who have nothing to do but fascism", you will be punished. So it is a crime for someone to say his/her thoughts in that country. so where is the freedom of speech then? On the other hand, even many -Armenian supporter- people said that "there is armenian genocide" in Turkey, they have not been judged and there is not much crime in Turkey to tell someone's thought. if anyone would say "there is no armenian genocide" in armenia, you will probably be killed in there. Secondly, even the law is not applied much of the time, the USA is a third-world country because its law has the capital punishment. However, even the killer terrorist who is responsible the deaths of thousands in Turkey was not punished by the capital punishment. Therefore, some of the things apply better in Turkey when you compare. Unfortunately, there are some illegal actions of religionist government and the court of the judgement while trying to put innocent people in jail, therefore, you might totally have a right to think Turkey is a third world country.

First off, "third world" is a Cold War-era term, so don't use it. "Second World" refers to countries that were Communist.

Turkey is a developing economy, yes. If you were to walk around the financial districts or the shopping malls of Istanbul, you would see plenty of trade just like in a "Western" economy. Yet if you were to go to the east of the country or neighborhoods on the outskirts of the country's larger cities, you would get a different picture. Some people live in compounds with swimming pools and go to tanning booths every day, while some take their kids out of school at age 11 to go work in a factory to make ends meet.

Turkey has plenty of promise--just in the few years I've been coming here I've seen major changes for the positive. While there isn't really a middle class here, arguably a true standard for judging whether or not an economy could safely be classified as developed, the Gini coefficient, a measurement of wealth distribution in a given economy, is close to that of the US.

I visited Turkiye one year ago now and I would definitely not consider it as a third world country. Yes, it has not the same standards as in western Europe if we're talking about the country in general, but as mentioned above, if you look in the financial districts or in a shopping mall, you will find a very high standard! The best part is that they still have a great hospitality and a rich culture. I am certain to go back any time soon, just love the country!!

One fact is that it might may be a second world country but that does not correlated with quality of life which is so important.

Turkey 3rd world? have you seen the state of British rail system? they have HIGH SPEED trains in Turkey which they are yet to have in UK! Who classifies these countries anyway? they should reclassify a lot of European countries into more honest classification and you would be surprised by the results.
I've been to Istanbul, and it's pretty amazing city...nothing third world about it. In fact I'd like to emigrate there

I have been to Turkey several time and liked it a lot. I would not consider it a third world country, but it is no where near the western world in terms of cost of living, human rights, etc.

Turkey is an emerging country and a member of E8 countries. Maybe it is a second world country.
