I've seen it posted numerous times in the RELIGION AND SPIRITUALITY section. Why is it even there? It's a cornerstone of biology and will remain there until replaced by a competent theory, which is NOT INTELLIGENT DESIGN. Evolution needs no leap of faith, with the evidence already found the lines can be connected. The specific details still need to be worked out but look at mechanics. Newton wasn't all right it was fixed and revised by later scientists.

Science is the search for truth, though empirical evidence, which can't be taken from spiritual text i.e. The Bible, Koran, etc.

Why can't you let it be? Would you like scientist telling you that the burning bush wasn't an act of god but, spontaneous combustion caused because of dried weather and ideal conditions? Science and Religion are too complete opposite things that shouldn't be combined. The more evidence science has the more credibly it is. In religion the more evidence, faith decreased. Faith is the cornerstone of it.

To those who say its an excuse to be atheist:
There are better reasons like the lack of proof. Many monotheist believe that evolution is true, it's only an issue in the United States for some reasons.

fish - Are you kidding me? The examples you have stated proves that science is tangible and changes with new information. The atom can't be split then we gained new information about nuclear reactions. How does the antichrist have anything to do with science? Also, if you haven't read The Origin of Species. Evolution is a perfectly sound scientific theory. There is a lot of work that goes into it. Also you might want to stop citing misconceptions of evolution to prove it's not true.

You're right, it's not a spiritual topic.
It's brought up here by fearful fundamentalists who are afraid that it proves their "every word is absolute truth" view of the bible wrong.

The fact is -- science and evolution don't care one whit about their god or beliefs. They don't care about proving them wrong, they don't care about proving them right. They only seek natural answers to natural questions, with no supernatural beings and no books of superstition involved.

The folks who want "creationism" or "ID" taught as science are just fearful, ignorant people who don't understand science.

There are people who believe that every word of the Bible is to be accepted as truth. Evolution is a threat against this belief and they feel the Bible must be defended against false beliefs.
Hopefully these people will go beyond their fears and take Bible classes which explain how, for whom and when the Bible was written.

It's a debate over religion, not sprituality. The question is, "Is Creation in Genesis literal?" Of course, "evolution" in this section means, evolution, abiogenesis, geology, cosmology, and every other scientific discipline that contradicts the 6 day Creation myth.

The theory of evolution mocks the Bible and the creation story. You cannot believe in evolution and believe that God created the universe by speaking it into existence. Christians believe the Bible from cover to cover; not just parts of it. We are not allowed the convenience of altering it to suit our needs and other beliefs.

Evolution is a religion that is antichrist. That is why it is here in the religion section. You are right that it will remain in biology until a competent theory comes along because now it is incompetent. Evolution needs all the faith you can muster to believe you are an ape. Once an ape, always an ape. "Specific details need to be worked out" because the details are made up and you need to work out the details so they will sound competent. Science and religion are the same because science is a religion. The more science opens its mouth, the more foolish it becomes. "The world is flat". "Man will never split the atom". "Man will never reach the moon".

The simple reason that Science is a hot topic ANYWHERE is because it contradicts a literal interpretation of the book of Genesis. Religious folk claim it to be wrong because it sheds a shadow of doubt over the literalist interpretation of their foundational scripture.

Were it not for energetic Christians trying to ban the teaching of evolution in schools, it probably wouldn't be noticed.

Because, evolution, being real and proven science, goes against the idea off God creating the universe and frankly scares the hell out of beleivers.

Well... partially because people are afraid of it. It challenges their precious little religious superstitions and dogma, and they feel the need to speak out against it despite knowing next to nothing about it.

It becomes a topic in this section when it needs to be defended by the few users here who are smart, rational thinkers.

It is absurd why anyone would feel threatened by evolution, most Christians worldwide are not, the Catholic Church made its peace with it decades ago.

I mean why not take a pop at quantum mechanics which is way more threatening for faith IMHO, guess coz they don't have their preachers talking nonsense about it.

Because evolution challenges the fact that God made the universe and everything in it.
