You see how many people on here have are crticising Islam without even looking at the Quran? If I wanted to critcise christianity I could also do it in the exact smae way relying on the media and other sources, I could say Christianity was the force behind Hitlers motive to kill the Jews:

Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord

Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Page. 60

Timothy McVeigh in 1995 killed 168 people in the Oklahoma Bombings, In 1993, 77 members of the Branch Davidian Christian sect perished in the Waco siege, including at least 20 innocent children.

Eric Robert Rudolph planted bombs at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, two abortion clinics and a gay nightclub to advance his religious ideology. In 1978, Reverend Jim Jones killed more than 900 of his followers by giving them a cyanide-laced drink in northern Guyana.

The Sabra and Shatila massacre was carried out by the by Lebanese Maronite Christian militias at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps, while the Israeli military guarded the exits and continued to provide flares by night.

Even when they do decide to quote a verse they don't even bother to read it in context. Here is one example they love to quote:

So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the pagans wherever you find them, and take them captive and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-due, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful

Quran Tawba Chapter 9 Verse 5

As you read this verse you probably have already made some judgments, saying “How can anybody justify this?” However this verse is being quoted out of context. If you read the verse before this it sheds more light on what is going on.

(But the treaties are) not dissolved with those Pagans with whom you have entered into alliance and who have not subsequently failed you in aught, nor aided any one against you. So fulfil your engagements with them to the end of their term: for Allah loves the righteous.

Quran Tawba Chapter 9 Verse 4

As you can now without a doubt see there were covenants and treaties in place which had been broken by some of the pagan tribes of Arabia. You can plainly see war was not waged on tribes which had abided and kept true to their word and Allah clearly reminds us of that.

To me, Islam is a religion much like other religions. But the followers of Islam are something else. Muslims are over religious. They're proud of the fact that they haven't changed since 632 AD.
When Muslims join the twenty-first century, Islam could be a highly respected religion. However, I don't expect that to ever happen. Men have their women right under their heel. The mullahs and imams have the people under their heel. The people are too stupid to change anything. All an imam has to say is, " It's the will of Allah ".
Isn't it strange that the will of Allah is always exactly what the iman wants ? Can't anyone see that ?

It's basically about the same as the other main ones. What I don't like about them is that their scriptures tend to violently condemn as sinful the rational choice to not believe in a supernatural being. As I have recently begun to study aspects of the religion, the civilisation it produced, Middle Eastern, Islamic and Arab thought, I still find it fascinating but I am an unbeliever so I find it vaguely ridiculous like the rest of the religions. It's not especially hateful as a religion except to the extent that all religions are inherently invidious. I think Jesus was probably a gentler person than Muhammad but they were both thought to be good guys in their times, though, by many people as was Buddha.

I wont say that Islam is less believable than Christianity or Judaism but in my personal opinion, I think Muhammad didnt like what the Church was teaching at the time and decided to change it. I however could never become a muslim because I cannot respect Muhammad for marrying a 6 yr old and "consumating" with her at 9 when he had a lot of other wives. Im not saying that prophets of the Bible were sinless.. David, is probably one of the most respected Prophets but he slept with a married woman and then murdered her husband. What the difference is, is that God knew David sinned, David knew he sinned, WE know David sinned, but we are expected to think what Muhammad did was not sinful. AND that he never sinned at all.

Islam was a respected religion 50 years back.
The lust for power by the Arabic Countries ( Iraq for example ) started and the sources from powerful countries helped creating terrorists in and around each countries in the middle east.
This spread with free flow of weapons and ammunition from the rich nations by a few cartel of ugly men.
It is now in all forms everywhere.
The muslims are powerless now,the powerful nations must join together and get rid of terrorist. Now Islam is associated with terrorists.
Will it be possible
LET'S SAY GOOD BUY TO TERRORISTS IN 2007 ?.
HAPPY NEW YEAR.

I have many Muslim friends, and they are some of the most laid back and non-judgmental people I know. If this is what Islam's effect is, then I say right on, man.

It suffers from its minority as all organized religion does, the violent few making the entire religion seem heinous and barbaric. Muslims do seem to react a lot more unreasonably to even implied insults, and appear to be much more intolerant to others beliefs (as evidenced by their willingness to execute converts to other religions).

Not much really, I don't really know much about it other than it is not for me. If it works for you that's great, I'm happy for you that you have a faith that you find fulfilling.

Blessings on your path.
