Maybe they don't need one.
Maybe needs info.

Maybe can't afford one.

Why does everyone say that.

If a person has a specific health question regarding symptoms, it is unlikely that anyone (doctor or otherwise) can make a definitive diagnosis based on a single post on the internet. This information is apt ot be limited, biased, misreported and without the corroboration of the often *critical* physical examination.

Because even if a doctor is on-line answering the question, no one can diagnose someone without seeing them and once seen their problem may be worse or not as bad as they thought and some may need medicine that requires a script. Even I have asked medical questions before and just wanted to see if others have gone through what I have been through but I still went to see a doctor. There are clinics everywhere that go by income and there is always the ER they may get mad because its not an emergency but so what you saw a doctor and you can pay a $1 a month if you have to and they have financial burden write offs. No one can really tell what you have without an exam and maybe some test.

Because without a degree none of us can diagnose another person. If the person asking the question wants a diagnoses and not just a bunch of guesses and opinions then they need to consult a physician. Someone that will give them a trusted opinion, even if two people have the exact same symptoms it doesn't mean that they have the same things wrong with them. It could result to be two totally different problems or sicknesses. Different people react to everything differently. That's why we give the advice to see a physician. Our info means nothing, it's worthless because we don't know the history or the condition of the problem.

You ask a very good question.

If you are looking for health, you may not need a doctor. If you have a health emergency or accident, I'd highly recommend a doctor.

Doctors are trained to diagnose diseases, prescribe drugs, and perform surgery.

But they are not trained to teach us how to attain great health and prevent disease.

If they taught people how to be well, they wouldn't have very many customers.

Doctors are usually good people. But they are trained to treat the symptoms of disease rather than keep people healthy. However, if I break my leg, I'll be very glad for a doctor who can patch me back up. Emergency medicine is where doctors do best. They do not to well with chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes and cancer.

I agree with those who say "you are your best doctor". As Dr. Mendelsohn says, with a little study, you will know more about your particular health problem than your doctor (see Confessions of a Medical Heretic by Dr. Robert Mendelsohn).

In my experience, one of the best books on how to have great health is "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, M.D. He walked out of the hospital on crutches when doctors wanted to perform surgery on his ankle because it wasn't healing. A couple of months later, he walked out of a health center with a healed ankle. It healed without drugs or surgery. He then went to medical school and now teaches people how to have great health and lose weight by concentrating on superior nutrition.

So become your own best doctor. If you keep learning, that's what will happen!

In the United States and some other countries, giving incorrect health advice could lead to lawsuits and other problems. Also, when it comes to life or death situations it is important to get an accurate answer quickly, and only a doctor can give that information.
