What do you do when you are depressed for weeks and want to die every day and your psychiatrist tells you to keep waiting for your meds to work and your therapist tells you to do all kinds of crap because she's convinced your problem is environmental when you know it's chemical. What do you do when your friends can't stand to be around you anymore because you're depressed, you have absolutely no one to turn to, what then?

It is hard, no doubt in the world about that. I might have misunderstood, what is a chemical, compared to an environmental. I am not being funny, if your friends do not wish to associate with you, have a big think and decide if you really need them anyway. One thing I have learnt in my life and that is a friend will stay with you no matter what. Life can get you down, but there is also a lot about life to make you keep going. Whether it is a job, a friend, or even a lover, or even your family, there is always someone there who will help you. I reiterate what your last reply was, if you wish to speak to someone, I am always available. And yes I know what you are are going through, it is the most desolate place on this universe. I could tell you things that would make your hair curl, but that is not the point, the aim is for you to be all right. Don't give up, there is always someone who will be beside you if that is what you want. Remember you are not alone.

Depressed about what exactly? Your mind can be your escape or your prison. Maybe you need to up your meds. Maybe you need a change of scenery or maybe you need to stop moping and start being proactive about your situation. What positive things are you doing in your life right now? If you just sit back and allow your mind to create a prison, it will. You need to get some perspective that will show you that there are people who are experiencing far worse than you. You're problems aren't the worse of them, I can assure you.

I've been depressed before and it lasted a month so I'm not talking out my azz here. I found that when I changed some things in my life - better job, less drinking, different social circle - things began to look up.

If you feel this is truly chemical, then have a scan done of your brain so they can properly diagnose and treat you. If they find nothing abnormal, then you need to change your reality by changing your mind. It's hard at first, but it gets easier.

I would get a second op ion, and for your friends if they are true friends they will stay around no mater what. Do you defiantly know it is just chemical, cause environmental factors do play an important role in that too. But try to find a different therapist, maybe the meds that they gave you are not the right ones for you.Keep your head up!!

If you honestly feel that it is chemical and your meds have not started to work yet, maybe try a different prescription. I had to use like 4 different kinds before found one that worked. There are different classe sof drugs that work on different parts of the brain's chemistry. So if your drugs aren't helping your depression then something else should be tried. Good luck to you. I have been there and I knwo it's hard, but you can make it through. It is worth it to get past, even though it may not feel that way right now.

I'm so sorry you are feeling this way. I have been battling this myself. I can't pretend to know how you feel because everyone feels and handles things differently. I can say that you are not alone. That may not be comforting to you, but it helps me. Are you religious at all? Is there a clergyman there to talk to? I would try that if it's an option. Otherwise, find someone, anyone that you can talk to or even anyone who can appreciate the depth of your sadness and isolation. It's a tough thing to grasp when you are not depressed. So, "happy" people just don't get it. Hang in there. And I'm here to talk if you would like.

Well you need to bring some changes in your life.

1. Walking relieves stress and is the best outdoor exercise.Walk for atleast 30-45 minutes a day.
2. Your bed is your temple. ( Sleep for atleast 7 hours a day)
3. Drink Grapefruit juice. It is a great stress buster.
4. Pray to God daily for all His blessings.

And the most important thing is that you let your interests be as wide as possible and let your reactions to the things and persons that interest you be as far as possible friendly rather than hostile because happiness depends partly upon external circumstances and partly upon oneself. Good luck.

There are many people going thru the same thing you are every day in this world. One of the best things you can do is get it out in the open like you are doing. Then realize there are people suffering far worse than you. Seek out someone who can really use your help right now (Homeless shelter, aids clinic, childrens hospital, etc) and be there for them. help them. One of the best remedies for depression is helping someone else in need.
