Frequently, the patient may be asymptomatic. This is one reason why many organizations recommend periodic screening for the disease with fecal occult blood testing and colonoscopy. When symptoms do occur, they depend on the site of the lesion. Generally speaking, the nearer the lesion is to the anus, the more bowel symptoms there will be, such as:
Change in bowel habits
change in frequency (constipation and/or (spurious) diarrhoea),
change in the quality of stools
change in consistency of stools
bloody stools or rectal bleeding
Stools with mucus
Tarry stools (melena)
Feeling of incomplete defecation (Tenesmus) (only associated with rectal cancer)
Reduction in calibre of faeces (only associated with rectal cancer)
Bowel obstruction (rare)
Especially in the cases of cancer in the ascending colon, sometimes only the less specific constitutional symptoms will be found:
Anemia, with symptoms such as dizziness, malaise and palpitations. Clinically there will be pallor and a complete blood picture will confirm the low hemoglobin level.
Anorexia
Asthenia, weakness
Unexplained weight loss.

Ok, I am not a Dr., only a Nursing student, so seek professional advice as well. The first sign will be a change in your normal bowel movements. You will either go more, less, may have blood in stool, or the stool will have a different consistency than normal. Also, you may see that you will be constipated for 1-2 weeks, and then followed by diarrhea for 1-2 weeks. You need to report any changes like these to a Dr. soon.

* blood in, or on, the stools (bowel motion). The blood may be bright red or dark in colour
* a change in your normal bowel habit (such as diarrhoea or constipation) for no obvious reason, lasting longer than six weeks
* unexplained weight loss
* pain in the tummy (abdomen) or back passage
* a feeling of not having emptied your bowel properly after a bowel motion.
Sometimes the cancer can cause a blockage (obstruction) in the bowel. The symptoms of this are sickness, constipation, griping pain and a bloated feeling in the abdomen.

Bowel Cancer is called a silent killer.Bleeding from the bowel is a symptom,if your stool is a black color then that can be blood. You should not wait to see a gastroendorologist. They have to do a test where they use a camera to look at the bowel's.If caught early it is curable. But the key is early! So don't wait contact a Dr. as soon as possible.Good luck.

Have no symptoms myself(probably kidding myself), but have 2 colonoscopies a year, to make sure, because I bleed a lot from the anus and sometimes it becomes ,excuse the pun, a pain in the ****. My dad died from bowel cancer so I just like to make sure.
