your cat probably feels that you are too rough with him or her. Be gentle. Also i learned that cats don't like people that try to pick them up all the time. so when you come to your cat don't always try to pick him up, sometimes a stroke under the chin(a cat's favorite spot) is enough. get your cat to trust you cause if your cat trusts you it will at least not run away from you. Ask your vet on how to get your cat to trust you.

my cats and my cousins cats used to run away from me. But here is something i have found useful. You should try to find the place they like to be petted on and once you do pet that place 3 to 4 times then leave them and do this every 10-15 minutes. Also never hit the cat and give them treats especially catnip. and maybe special food like wet food that comes from the can, or tunafish, tho it stinks

Some cats were brought up wrong. Has your cat been doing this ever since you got it?

Try playing with your cat every day. Get some toys that cats like and play with them. Eventually your cats will figure out you are fun, and will curl up with you on the couch.

when a cat won't come over to you when you want them to, hold out your hand and use a soothing voice and let her smell your hand; then you can gently pet her. but make sure you don't make any sudden movements, or else it may freak her out. it's okay if she doesn't like being held, tons of cats go crazy if you pick them up. but whatever you do, let the cat come to you, don't go up to it yourself. (the word "lik" needs to have an "E" at the end.)

Cats lick people who they consider to be part od their "clan" of family. So treat it with love and it may choose to lick you.
