I have a 1 and a half year old Beagle and every time we eat he tries to jump on the table and our food. Is this instinct or can we train him to stop this.

You can definitely train him to stop this.

Make sure that he is not getting ANY table scraps. Maybe someone is feeding him, or he might be picking up food that has been dropped on the floor. If any of this is happening, then he feels that he is being rewarded for hanging out at the table.

If he does jump at the table, block him, tell him NO, and put him into another room.

He will come to learn that he has to behave in order to be allowed to be out with the family.

Well maybe it's because you give him table scraps or you let him. Make sure to yell at him and then he will maybe learn. I Have 2 big dogs who do that and the one has an attutuide and will never stop doing it so GOOD LUCK

You can most definately train him to stop this. Block him with your hand and say "no" and make him sit. Also, be sure that no one is feeding him table scraps. If you are, then you are actually encouraging his bad behavior.

1) Whoever's feeding him from the table, make them stop.

2) Put him in another room or in a crate while you're eating.

many dogs do this. it seems no matter how many times you feed a dog, they still have room for more.

just give it some table scraps, nothing too sweet, and nothing too fatty, maybe some meat, or popcorn, or chips.

it's either your food, or your furnature, and in some cases, your leg.

I think some simple training would make him understand he's not supposed to do that.
