Muscle mass is gained by using your muscles against a force of resistance that gradually increases over time. For example, once a 20-lb weight becomes too light, you graduate to maybe a 25-lb weight, and so on and so forth. This takes weeks or months to accomplish. If you want to gain muscle mass but don't have the time to go to a gym, then you'll need to provide your muscles with some source of resistance at home, as well as eat a proper diet. An excellent book with many at-home exercises is "Body for Life", which can be found in most bookstores. I've used this book before and highly recommend it!
Happy New Year!

Ahh, the common excuse "I don't have time to go to the gym".
Well make time, you probably make time for many other things.
Stop making excuses and get to the gym. Many gyms give a free sessions with a trainer, especially this time of year.
