Labeling is not required for all food products. When products contain ingredients for which serious (allergic) reactions are known, labeling is required.

Foods that are sold as a manufactured commodity have to disclose ingredients and possible health risks. Prepared foods do not.
A lot of high fat, fast foods will contain MSG or mono-sodium Glutamate.

Usually they do put it on the package. It will say Monosodiumglutamate, or something like that. That is MSG's whole name. It will be on boxes and it is in alot of dry goods, like lipton soup, which I grew up on, and it says it right on the package.
When dining out, specifically ask them for NO MSG, they have to comply.

Sometimes msg is hidden under "natural flavors" or "vegetable broth." The best bet is to "shop the walls" of your supper market and stay away from preprepared foods.

Are you allergic to it? It's not actually bad for you, despite it's chemical sounding name it's very natural and occurs in many foodstuffs.
