Yes the french press will generally make a more flavorful cup of coffee. It leaves the oils intact, and you have much better control over the temperature of the water, and how long the grinds steep. Night and day difference in my eye.

It does tend to be stronger as the grounds are in constant contact with the thot water, but it is more flavourful and has a richer more full bodied taste.
I buy a selection of beans at a my local grocery store, I get a bag, and start with Columbian, then Costa Rican, a little French Roast and finally a touch of Moka Java.
I leave these as whole bean, then grind them at the time I make a pot, I was a former chef in Canada and found it interesting to play with combinations of coffees, I like both Kona and Jamaican Blue Mountian, but they are specialty brands and can be added to change the mellowness, but experiment or find some thing you like and enjoy it.

I'm very fond of coffee in the morning and tea (either green or black chai) throughout the day. I also like non caffeinated chai and cranberry tea for fluid retention. My go to medicinal soup (and do not judge folks) is Lipton's chicken noodle in a pouch. When I feel like crap this could be supped all day. I'd never heard of Bonox before tonight. We don't use Vegemite here in Canada either but you can buy Marmite if you search hard and long.

I think it's the bean that makes a great coffee. And the person making it. I used to work in a place that made great coffee, until they hired someone who didn't know how to make it, then no machine could make it better.
