This is a bit early, but it's fun to plan now, and it gives me lots of research to do and fun while waiting (we -are- waiting until after his deployment, so wedding won't be until at least September 2008 (maybe even in August, at Pennsic!). We want to have a Scadian event (Society for Creative Anachronism) centered around our wedding, based on a historical wedding, preferably 14th century (as both our personas are 14th century). I'm trying to locate medieval weddings of that time period that we could possibly base our wedding around, and looking for all the details of said wedding. Any ideas?

rosko: my fiance is 37, and has been into the SCA for 15 years. yea...I don't think he's going to not be into the SCA when he's 40. Three years away...and me, I'll follow him anywhere, and am a die-hard Scadian, thank you.

(p.s.-it's not Goth ;) it's medieval)

A perfect option may be a May dance with a hand-fasting and a bard to serenade and record the tale for posterity. You can probably contact your local Renaissance Faire and see if their grounds are available for the blessed event. I have been to Mayfair weddings and they are the most raucous of occasions as the point of the faire is to rejoice in the end of the long cold nights with dance-food and basic revelry - the debauchery is entirely at the revelers discretion. You could even arrange with the faire to have costumes of appropriate size available for all your guests to change into upon arrival so your photos are all instep. The goode folks of the Faire will also have many ideas for invitations to get your guests exited and food appropriate to the time. Don't forget to enjoy a rummed fruited cake (not a fruit cake brick- a fruited cake) for the solemnity of marriage it is sweet, bitter and sometimes a bumpy road but always a sweet surprise and have the kitchen prepare Turduckin or some other farcical food for the pleasure of your guests. In the Fall it would be a Harvest wedding with bonfires and serenades by moonlight with rich warm wine punches and dark heavy Mead's. This can be such a delight and you are beginning planning just in time 2 years is just about right for a themed wedding to be as perfect as your minds eye can see.

Check with your librarian as there may be such groups/clubs in your area. We have Medieval Times here in Toronto, Canada and I know that they have locations throughout the USA.

I've included the link below. - click on the buy tickets link for locations

Congrats and best wishes.

Grow up and have a triditional wedding. You will regret it when you are not in to all the goth stuff when you are 40.
