You start thinking for yourself instead of letting someone else tell you how to live your life.

thats really hard, my mentor or advisor or Guru if you prefer, just up and left out of the clear blue sky... she had been ill for awhile but never gave notice or said goodbye or anything, (no she did not die she just walked out on everything and everyone) I know people have to care for themselves but she was in a very sensitive area with advising and counseling. itreally blows when someone steals your right to closure, and this was a sacred trust, its like an abandonment, and thats an emprty hurtful feeling, it leaves one with the thoughts of "what did I do wrong" I have just recently gone thru this and I am still working on it, I guess the best thing is to remember that they too are human and not capabe of perfection. Perhaps they were dealing with their own issues and did not elalborate them to you as that is NOT why they were helping you, to make you their counselor. Its still hurtful I still feel sad and even angry sometimes, I went thru a,ot of I must be unworthy or God would not have taken that person out of my life. I even cry I miss this person more than anything I was with this person for 8 years.I reflect on the things my mentor did teach to me that I can still use.I have gone thru several mentoring relationships like this that end up hurtful to me, I have stopped seeking out more counseling for awhile. I can only take so much pain, they talk of such things as being a two way street and a mutual relationship but its unbalanced power and the counseled often has NO power and is left with a giant gaping wound that takes a long time to heal esp if counselors keep doing it over and over, I do not see anyone now, obviously because I cannot stand anymore pain. and I am gong thru some of the biggest transitions I ever had to deal with in my life. But I am strong, maybe now without help I will realize my OWN strentghs but it was nice to have SOME support once in awhile, I have been thru much and have no real friendships either

I think it happens in a lot of people’s lives, when an authority figure, with which you put a great deal of trust in, disappoints you. I think it’s a part of growing up.
You learn to make your own decisions and try not to have any regrets. It was a good thing because you learned about yourself more and you learned about human frailty.

First: Mourn for the loss you have suffered. It's hard to be dealt such a harsh blow, you need time to heal.
Second. Realize that even though we all need teachers from time to time, no one is perfect and we all have faults. Don't place anyone on a pedastal. Learn to learn from any source that has something to teach, don't just rely on a single all-knowing guru.
Third: Learn to rely on yourself. "If what you seek you find not within, you shall never find it without."

You have to stop and ask yourself...is this th epath i want to go down.Following people and things that fail me. The Christian bible says that there is nothing to hard for God to perform, and that he cannot lie. Every word that comes out of his mouth he is faithful to perform every word he speaks. Maybe you should turn to the christian faith and just try it and see the salvation of the LORD GOD. And accept Jesus into your heart as you personal Lord and Savior.

You learn your lesson and you move on.
Personally, I wouldnt let anyone other than myself be my guru... When you fail yourself, its a bit easier to move on.

Nancy, I am sorry to hear about your experience. The truth is that every one of us is sinful, and every one of us fails other people at some time or another. I know I have - to my own shame. Others have also let me down.
However, Jesus is our perfect redeemer, his Holy Spirit our perfect counselor. They will never let us down.
Please feel free to contact me at gbisaga@yahoo.com if you wish to talk more.
