I am taking a 5g serving. Would 47g of suger give me the full benefit?

Sugar is an inferior source of carbs to mix with your creatine. Most people don't buy straight creatine for post workout - it is much easier to buy the creatine powder mixes that have have the carbohydrates already mixed in. Rather than suger they use a Dextrose, Glucose mix. Some who use straight creatine powder will mix it with 8 oz of grape juice which provides the right amount of carbs, but again this will be in the form of Fructose. A better choice would be to mix it with a Glucose source like AST's DCG:
