I want to sort out a pile of old photographs of my grandparents, parents etc., some from the 40s and 50s. When they are in some sort of order I would like to laminate them but dont know if the laminating sheets and the heat used will damage the pictures in future years. I know they will be OK when first done, but what of the future. Hope someone can help me. Thank you

My partner...a photographer...used to Heatseal (which is different from laminating) wedding photographs to protect them...but he says that it will prevent you taking copies in the future as you will get flare and reflection from the coating.

Don't laminate them - you may damage them irreparably. Your best bet is to store them in a purpose-designed photo album, preferably one with acid free paper, to preserve their integrity.
