I said eh?? as well. He was the man in the first film who was the man who lead the mutiny of the Black Pearl who put Captain Jack Sparra on the island and left him there,. thereby becoming Captain himself. THerefore when they asked for Captain of Black pearl, instead of getting Jack Sparrow they got him. Which probably means Jack Sparrow did die in the monster's mouth. I think I have got that right.

have you watched the first movie? if not, then you should cause he's a main character. he's the guy who mutineed against capt. jack and took over and was captain the black pearl until jack got it back again in the end of the first movie.
it was really suprising to see him come down the steps in the end because he supposidly died in the first one (he gets shot).
but yeah, totally watch the first movie (pirates of the caribbean: the curse of the black pearl). its a great movie (and you'll find out more about Barbossa)

Captain Barbosa, I guess he would be the bad guy in the first film. He captained the Black Pearl in Captain Jack Sparrows absence, so to speak.
