ABSOLUTELY!!! They say misery likes company and this person is purposely trying to mak you feel guilty and miserable if something happens to them. They are so unhappy with their own lives that they need someone else to feel just as bad. dont give into this behavior, dont let them manipulate you this way.

Yes, this definitely qualifies as emotional and mental abuse. And you are also correct in your belief that it is not alright for an adult to be saying this to their child. Since this parent has not learned skills or tools to deal with anger, frustration or stress, perhaps during a quiet moment you could bring this subject up to your parent and explain how hurtful and painful it is to hear these types of statements. This discussion alone may begin to help your parent understand the damage they are doing. If it does not stop this type of language, talk with your school counselor about your issues at home.

no, that's not okay and I would think it is emotional abuse. That parent is not acting the way a parent should. No one person should put that kind of guilt on another. IF you are behaving in a way that causes them stress, then stop. If you are a good person and do your best, your parent is in need of some help. I would suggest family counseling.

well sometimes the parents of the old school age have used that to keep the children in line but in this day of abuse, depending on how it is said and the age of the child, it could be looked at as emotional abuse.

Mindy,
Yes it is wrong to tell your child that he or she is responsible for another's death- It is absolutely emotional abuse.
Alot of times others are blamed in the event that someone will die because of you or however, In my oppinion-that person has a guilty conscience-and they are trying to take the guilt off themself and put it on someone else.
DON'T BUY INTO SUCH AN ACCUSATION. UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO MURDER SOMEONE.
PUT THE ACCUSATION BACK INTO THAT ACCUSERS LAP. IT DOESN'T BELONG IN YOUR LAP.

Yes, that is absolutely emotional abuse. Talk to your school counselor or another trusted adult about what is going on. This should not continue.

it is emotional abuse. Enev though it's emotional, you still can physically suffer, with getting sick because you worry about it all that time. Its abuse and it shouldn't be taken. It's not ok for anyone to say that to anyone!

Maybe they're saying it in a joking matter and dont realize that it bothers you. (I hear people say all the time that someone will "be the death of them" , but they dont mean it as an insult), but regardless of whether theyre joking or not, its bothering you, and it shouldnt be said. Tell them how it makes you feel
