She has 3 breaks and 1 fracture, is 14 months old, and has began to put weight on it 2 days after operation, although still obviously in a lot of pain. What kind of recovery time am i looking at and will i need to put her into some sort of phsio class, such as a hydro pool class?

What did the vet tell you?

For something like this kind of surgery, which obviously was major, he should have gone over everything with you regarding recovery time, pain meds and if therapy would be needed after.

Call the operating vet and ask him these questions. He would be the best one to know since he knows your pet.

I had a situation like this, but with a husky/lab mix.
Yes phisical therapy is best, but you can do it at home if possable. We did it, but of course I'm training to be vet and my dad is doctor. :) But it easy my 9 year old brother did it a few the days. Our dog wouldn't let us touch the leg so one person held him down and the other just took the leg and did the same movements the dog makes as it walks with that legs. towards the stomach, out behind its back end. do that about 5 times and the if the dogs leg is aloud to bend at knee (sometimes they don't let em') softly push legs in (bending motion) the out and do that 3 times. If you do that once or twice a day the dog will be good. We didn't do swimmimg because the dog couldn't swim. we did carry it in a pool though and it would fling it's legs like it was swimmimg. :)
good luck any questions you can e-mail me at sidesadle11@yahoo.com

FOLLOW THE VETS DIRECTIONS TO THE LETTER. At the moment the plate & pin are all that holds the leg togher. you don't want to sress them & possibly break them or you'll have to start all over. Even flexing the mends can prevent healing by breaking the forming bone bridges between the bone ends. EVENTUALLY phiso will be called for but NOW confinement is probaly the order of the day.

What I would do is, call the same vet that performed the surgery, and ask him/her. They know the situation with your poor puppy, more than anyone else would. I hope your little girl recovers quickly.

What does the vet say? They would know your dog's status a lot better than a bunch of online Yahoos.
