are prepaid cards good? They're like gift cards but they're for everyday use. I cant have a checking account (and apparently you need one to get even a debit card) and this just seems easy.

Why can't you have a checking account, and therefore a debit card?

I suppose prepaid cards would at least allow you to order things on the Internet, and where you need to put a card in a slot because they do not take cash, but it seems wrong that you can't get a checking account.

I got a VISA card for Christmas and I have refilled it already! I don't want the responsibility of a credit card yet and having a set amount of money on a card instead of in cash form is very nice. It beats writing a check or having tons of money on you! Since you don't even have a checking account, a prepaid card would be very nice.

Yes gift cards are good and work basically same way as a credit card.

For the above posters, A lot of times if you owe a bank, like if you let your balance fall negative and dont pay it back after 3months or so, they report you to chexsystems. This blackballs you from opening an account at any other bank, because almost every bank uses chexsystems to see if someone owes money to another bank.

It depends on whether or not there are any conditions connected with the cards. Make sure that you know the vendor, and that it is someone, who'll be doing business, in the same place two months from now.
