The only super power left is the US. China has alot of man power but is behind the US in technology and the ability to move people to where they need to be.

The european union would be the worlds biggest superpower and to some it already is in an unofficial manor. Others reject this idea including many european leaders and people but with the creation or the 7500 strong fledgling EuropeanForce ( EUFOR ) and a ever closer joint econemy a unified europe looks more and more likely. It already has the biggest GDP on earth ( some $15trillion ) a combined population of near 500million and a huge importer and exporter of goods worldwide.
Where as the USA believe China is the biggest threat to there supremecy the real truth is that the EU ( or United States of Europe as some call it ) is a much bigger threat to Americas position as the only superpower. If the European Forces were to put forward between 10,000 to 50,000 soldiers in the 26 member states the army would be a match for anyone and take into account that countries would keep there own armies aswell the combines size of the european forces would be massive and by far the most powerful on earth ( possibly 5million strong ) a formidable airforce and Unparralled navy. The upside for the US is we are allies but in the future it could be us leading the way not the Americans.

By most measures, the United States - though with increasing global interdependence I believe the standards are getting tougher.
No question the United States has the most formidable military capability on the planet. However, unless the objective can be achieved by use of nuclear weapons or by similarly bombing the enemy into oblivion, our ability is limited by the erosion of other nation's trust in us and therefore our ability to build coalitions and alliances. Also, it has been shown that we have a very difficult time with entrenched guerilla opposition.
Economically the United States is also the leader. However, with our growing national debt and trade deficit, collectively other countries like China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Russia are able to call more of the economic shots, limiting our economic - and, interestingly, military - alternatives.
While an extremely formidable country both militarily and economically, China is still primarily playing the role of spoiler. It certainly looks scarier than it is because, like Japan in the 1970's and 1980's, it is growing rapidly and its upper limit is unknown. But we know they will hit some ceilings soon, if for no other reason than that they are running out of resources to exploit.

The three super powers of the near future are the EU, China, and India. With the economic growth of India and China they will evolve into super powers. Although with NAFTA I believe that eventually America, Canada, Mexico might form the core of the American union but only time will tell.

I really think that there is little doubt any other country in the world can wield comparible economic, political or military power as the United States can. China may be closing the gap on all three fronts, however rapid growth presents a host of difficult problems ie environmental and economic(pollution and inflation).a previous reply to this question cited Iran. politically Irans international influence(outside the muslim world) is limited to a UN general assembly vote. economically, Irans possession of oil and possible interruption of oil through the strait of hormuz are her greatest assets.militarily her reach is limited to the range of her ballistic missiles and her covert operatives ie terrorists or freedom fighters(depending on your point of view).

the USA.. but i think that the European union will be getting there stuff together in a few years and be a strong force. as it is there combined naval forces are pretty good.. the only thing that they don't have is a first class carrier force. the army of the e.u is very strong also and so the air force.. combined that is!!!. all they need is a carrier fleet to project there polices in the world. the chinese .. i don't think so.
