I'm car shopping right now and have fallen in love with the Saturn Ion 2. One big problem though: The windshield looks like I'm looking through a magnifying glass. All images are distorted around the edges and my eyes hurt when I drove it. Has anyone else out there encountered this problem with a Saturn?

Current solution in mind: Purchasing the Ion (great price, great drive) and replacing the windshield (non-Saturn). Does this make any sense to anyone else?

Any opinions/statements would be a great help. Thanks

Sounds like an odd solution and one I would check on before purchasing. I did sit in an Ion at the auto show and didn't notice anything wierd.

I've owned 2 IONs, an '04 Sedan and now a new '06 Quad Coupe, neither of which had a weird magnifying glass windshield. If you're looking at new IONs then I would go find another one to look at. If its a used one and you could find another with similar options then go for that one because the windshield is nothing to mess with, especially when its your safety thats on the line. My only guess as far as the magnifying glass look goes is that either someone who previously owned the car (if its used) was a heavy smoker and the magnifying glass look is from excessive smoking film on the glass. Its also possible that whatever 14 year old your dealership has cleaning their vehicles may have used an incorrect chemical on the glass, which could also be causing the magnifying glass look. Both of these problems could probably be easily fixed with a good automotive glass cleaner (usually a foam that comes in an aerosol can). Most GM dealerships carry GM's auto glass cleaner or could order it for you if you are really set on the car (if you're buying from a GM or other major brand dealership, they should have some in their service or detail department that they might let you use). Good luck with your purchase, you won't be disappointed in the ION!

if all the ions you drive are like that, then i would say stay away from them. thats not something small, if you go and replace the windsheild its goin to cost you about 1000 for the glass and 200-300 to get it in. and its going to be saturn glass, where ever you go to get it they will order it from saturn.

unless its just your eyes, ive never heard of car being made with issues like that with the front windshield because that would be a dangerous thing to let pass during development of the car. IMO jsut stay away from saturn
