I dye my hair red and I've got this crazy idea that I want to start swimming on a regular basis. I usually avoid the pool because I know chlorine will take a toll on the color. Is there anything I can do to keep the vibrance restored when I go swimming?

Swimming pools can ruin hair. The chlorine in a pool is a strong bleach. It will discolor hair and leace it with an unattractive tinge. Protect your hair before going in by applying a deep conditioner. Immediately after, rinse your hair in apple cider vinegar, then with club soda. The carbonation will lift excess salt and chlorine out.

Or wear a swimming cap but it might make you look a bit idiotic. My friend has dyed her hair and she uses Phytoplage Protective Beach Spray available on the internet.

Use the website below, this has a lot of information on it.

Good luck!

Red is the color with the largest molecules which means it will leach out of your hair faster than brown or blonde color. You should completely avoid chlorine if you want red hair. The red will leach out and fade even without chlorine. Blonde leaches out slower than red, but does still fade, however, the fading is not as noticeable because of the nature of the blonde color.

I am sure there are some hair care products that are designed for that purpose... Go to a hair cutting place, and ask.
