Lots of good sites on the internet for starters eckrause.com, has recepie and instructions. for hard cider, if you just mean apple juice. then stop here.

First thing you must deal with is patience, cider is fairly simple but it will need to age and the process is long for good hard cider. Since you lack equipment. buy yourself a gallon or two of cider at the grocery or farmers market. Check the ingredents list and avoid any cider with potassium sorbate (stabilizer) this is an ingredient that keeps cider from fermenting and increases the shelf life.

if it is pasturized thats ok , you can add sugar and then a yeast, if you do not have access to wine yeasts, then you can try out a baking yeast like fleichmans. cover the container, and be sure the container has some room for expansion if you don't want a mess everywhere. You will need to add a device to keep air out but to let out the gasses produced during fermentation. after a week or so, you siphon out the mixture leaving behind as much sediment as possible and repeat the process (don't add sugar or yeast) just let it continue to ferment. after 6 weeks rack it again (sipon into new container) and do it again. This time you may wait a couple of weeks, the mixtue will have cleared somewhat. Almost time to bottle. before you bottle you will need to add some stabilizer like potassium sorbate to prevent any further fermentation.

Go to the krause site and read more. Most importantly keep everything clean and sanatized, have fun.

The most important part is , of course, the apple.
You do need variety which are not tasty but produce the best juice. Press it, put the juice into a barrel for 2-3 month, when the alcohol level is down to 1013+-5, put it into bottle with cork and metal wires. let the bottle up in a fresh area. Serve with a good meal.
You can let the rest of the barrel continue to work, after distillation, it makes a very good calvados.

cider is just the juice of pressed apples, if youdo not have a cider press, throw cut and cored apple chunks in a food processor and pulse untill it is a sloppy mess and the pour it into a pillow case (clean please) in a large bowl an twist the sack to press out the liquid. work quickly or it will turn a nasty brown.

if you mean hard cider... check a few beermaking and homebrewing sites
