My daughter is extremely hard on her jeans, and is constantly burning right through the knees. Yah, yah... I know, ripped jeans are fashionable. But, we live in Wisconsin, and it is cold here right now. A 5-year old shouldn't be getting an icy draft up her pants because she has holes in the knees of her jeans. So, I am wondering how to patch jeans. I am worried an iron-on patch will be too stiff for the knees. However, I am also a terrible sewer. I do not have a sewing machine, so anything I sew will be done by hand. Any ideas? I would like it to look nice and be relatively easy for a sewing dummy like myself.

There is " Fabric Glue" available in craft section of department stores or craft supply stores or catalogs!

I would suggest using it and a piece of thick flannel material and here is the best part...Patch the knees on the inside of the jeans not the outside. ( turn the jeans inside out and apply the fabice glue according to instructions. then just quickly sew around the edges for a little extra hold.)

Iron On Knee Patches

The answers you've already gotten seem suffiecent. I just thought I would offer a tip.

My 7 year old is really tough on his jeans too. It's unreal to me! When I buy him new jeans, I use the iron on patch on the inside of the knees! It keeps them sturdier, longer, and you can't tell from the outside at all! The patches are about $1.50 for two. Money well spent when you're trying to make a $25 dollar pair of pants last longer than a couple weeks.

Hope this helps out a bit! Happy New Year!

Sewing cheat- fabric paint.

Cut the patch (any fabric scrap, pretty much) into a cute shape, pin it to the jeans, and outline it thickly (so the paint goes on both the jeans and fabric, but still looks like a relatively neat line) with a pretty color fabric paint- WalMart sells this stuff for like 88 cents a bottle. Let it dry overnight.

After several wearings, you may have to touch this up- but it's easier than sewing and heck, a 5yo isn't gonna be wearing the same size jeans long anyway.

Personally I hate the look of patched jeans. What about getting her leggings of some kind to wear under her jeans? Keeps the cold out and you don't have to worry about the holes.

maybe for a few of them u could buy a cute scrape of fabric and sew them on ( even if it looks bad it is a really cut fashion trend and it keeps the cold away from her legs. u wouldn't want to do that for all of them though, so go shopping , it's after x-mas so there are a lot of sales STOCK UP! Hey that is what i do and i am 14. LOL ! Good Luck!!!

Find a fun patch and sew it on. Sew a few of them on in diferent places. You can find iron on ones too.

Ask her if she wants it noticeable, because it would look cool if you put a different fabric on it. Her favortie color. Ask her.

If not, I would take a piece of fabric, sturdy, of course, and sew it onto where the whole is.

Like I said, you can make it unnoticable, or start a new style.

You can buy iron on patches---and they really aren't that stiff after they are washed and broken in
