Cereal does not need to go in the fridge because cereal is able to last a while unlike milk, which if it sets out for a long time, it will spoil. Cereal can sit out for a long time and have no need for refridgeration. And, also, if you put cereal in the fridge, it will lose it crisp and become kind of soggy, which is nasty.

For the same reason as you would never put a bag of sugar in the fridge - cereals are highly processed, killing all the nutrients and live components in the process, so there is nothing "live" to go off. If you put them in the fridge you would only introduce moisture which over time would stimulate bacteria to grow making it go mouldy.

The obvious being it's not perishable....but depending on where you live, I put everything in the fridge when I am in Florida, just to keep it fresh, but up here in New Hampshire, the cereal stays fresh for a long time.

What the fridge actually does is that reduces the action of enzymes.Enzymes are biological catalysts that make a reaction go faster.Cereals do not need fridge because they are cooked in oven or oil and the enzymes are killed. So no fridge is needed to make the reaction go slower as there are no enzymes

low water content, below 10% moisture bacteria cannot grow. no bacteria no spoilage. refridgeration would ADD moisture because of the humidity in the cooler
