Atheist, hey that's what you beleive in or not. What are the first words out of your mouth when you are without a doubt going to hit a car full speed head on? Or you walk to check in on your 14 month old baby and they are not breathing? Just curious.

for those with the I would say a swear word, just not to admit it would be oh my god or oh god (and I do beleive it would sometimes be oh ****) is funny. I really don't care what it is that you would say, I just wanted to know. We all know nothing as far as god, judgement or what ever, but we will find out one day.

"oh crap!"...what is your point? That since some atheists use the expression "Oh God" that means they really believe in God? RUBBISH, it is just an expression that we have heard 8,000,000 times and stuck.

I've had accidents before and didn't say anything out loud, but thought in my mind "sh*t!".

If my baby wasn't breathing I'd probably be yelling "I need a doctor! FAST!" or "somebody call an ambulance".

I suspect you are digging for "oh my god". I never use that phrase and people who use it don't necessarily believe in a god. They're not really calling for god. This has just become a common expression. You tend to start using expressions you hear all the time and this one is no exception. Atheists saying "oh my god" isn't really any different than Christians saying "holy cow" for example. Those exclamations are not religious, people have just picked up the habit of using them casually.

Probably a swear word. Even if we do shout 'oh god' or something similar, it's very often just used as a phrase. Just because people celebrate christmas it's not necessarily for religious reasons. It's the same principle.

First off, if I were about to have a head on collision yes, I would probably say oh s*** then brace myself for impact. Also, if I had a child of any age who wasn't breathing I would dial 911 and wait for the operator to give me emergency medical dispatch instructions to help my child.

You do realize that "Oh God" and even "Jesus H Christ" are expressions, right? Surely you don't think people are really calling on God or Jesus EVERYTIME they say something like that. Come on... Calling ON someone is different than just saying "Oh God".

For the sake of this question though... even if they do say Oh God... who's to say they aren't calling on Zeus????

I haven't been in either of those situations. I have not yet, though, called upon any god when I am in a situation of pain or fear. I assume that in the first situation I wouldn't call anyone, I'd try to get myself into the safest position possible. In the second one, I'd call 911--just like any theist would.

The one time I was in a emergency situation I actually said "Oh Sh*t" as my 3 year old brother fell off a table. I was wondering, for any people who read this after me. What do some unwed Christian teenage girls yell when they are have pre-marital intercourse?

From many years of experience, and a war. The first words out of many, many people's mouth in times of great stress is "OH SH*T !!!" I also heard that as the last phrase of soldiers in the battlefield. And as that phrase should prove, what you utter in times of great stress has nothing to do with what you want to do, or what you want to happen. They are simply phrases.

It is a cultural matter, due to convention we all either atheist or not, call God. But that is only because "Oh my God" became a synonym for "How terrible". So it´s a matter of culture rather than faith. Regards, Gabriel.

Admittedly I say 'Oh my God' because that's what's been drummed into me from a young age (cos of course I live in a mainly Christian society). But then again, I thought calling the Lord's name in vain was wrong...so...yeah...But I do say f*ck and boll*cks too ^_^
