I'm not sure what you mean by "tested," but I do think that such things should be considered carefully and studied before any activity related thereto should be engaged in. If a belief is good, it will hold up under intense scrutiny. This does not do away with faith, of course. Beliefs require faith, because they are not factual. If something is factual, faith in it does not change anything. Faith is still valuable even after scrutiny, because a belief will still require it.Scrutiny ought to be the quest to understand an idea, not to prove or disprove.
