I know you personally cannot own a firearm once you "have been convicted" of a felony. However, I also know of instances where a felon's wife owned the weapon, and the felon would get a hunting license annually ( figure that out).
I'd suggest removing the firing pin, so it is not weapon, talk to the police on this whole process of how to get a weapon declassified as a weapon.

No you can not own a handgun whether it is given to you or not! You can not even legally be in a home where you know someone has a gun. You better give those gun's back unless you want to go back to prison.

No, absolutley not. Sorry, I know it bites, but thats the law, but, laws change, and can obviously be bent. Ask your Parole Officer or a Policeman or an Arrorney if you are allowed to own Collectible Firearms that are Family Hierlooms and part of the Estate. Throw in that dead relative used them to fight a good Republican war or something fantastic. /g

Once you commit a felony, you will never be allowed to own a gun. I'm very sorry, but this is the law. No one is excluded from this, no matter how much time has passed. Thank you.

There is no way anybody can give you a definitive answer to this question without knowing the jurisdiction you are in. In California the answer would be "no." You could not own them, you could possess them no longer than necessary to take them to the police for disposition.

the is no statue of limitations on this law. the answer is mostly no. but you could file with a court and have a judge remove the status from your record.. or at least lower the judgment enough for the person in question

No, unless the governor of the state expunged your record and gave you a pardon, you can go to prison for having them. Call the ppolice and explain to them what happened and surrender the guns right away.
