My dog injured his leg over a month ago and he has become very aggressive. He is now a very scared dog and snaps over anything at any time. He now hates his walks. He bit my boyfriends face and his still snapping. He is not eating anymore. Because he is a pit bull i fear that if he does bite someone i will be forced to put him down. I love him but I belive he is in pain from is injury and feels vurnable. No pain meds help him and (The vet is just runnin me around with this test and that) I dont know what to do with him or what is in his best intrest. Keep him and risk it, give him up to more expericed hands where he could be put to sleep in the end or put him him to sleep myself to end his pain or fear of living. HELP

His vet thinks he broke something in his knee. He is having exrays done. If this is true it would take a couple thousand dollars to fix and I cant justify it if he is going to always be a scared dog. The injury happen outdorrs and he has gone through lots of training.

In my honest opinion, the best thing to do would be to put him down. I know it will be hard, but agresive dogs will always get meaner

Before jumping to the extreme, I would suggest finding a new vet for a second opinion. The vet should be able to prescribe something to help with the dog's pain. Regardless of the dog's situation, however, you can not accept any aggression behavior. The fact that your dog might be hurting is still not an acceptable reason for your boyfriend to be bitten. I would keep the dog monitored, in a crate if needed, until the situation is resolved.

First of all, he may be in pain but that does not excuse the behavior. You need to find a professional trainer to work with you ASAP...if he bites someone, even yourself, you have a serious problem (irregardless of the breed). If he was a nice dog previous to this, you will hopefully be able to get it back..it just may take time. Moreover, if he does not like walking, do not force him. The dislike could be his way of telling you he is in pain.

Moreover, was the injury an injury that requires surgery or anything else? You may also want to look into acupuncture; find yourself a veterinarian that practices both Eastern and Western medicine.

To bad you never said " how he injured his leg" A good vet can make a determination as to why he needs pain medication after his leg has healed.Like others suggested your first line of defense is a second opinion, take his records to a new vet and see what happens.I would guess your very nervous around him especially when he has to go out for a walk. This is a needed exercise, " the walk is so important to his overall mental condition. A good behaviorist can help

Your dog is in obvious pain, which in turn is making him aggressive. Imagine if you yourself was in constant pain, wouldn't you be touchy. Your dogs aggression is his only means of defence,he is terrified you will hurt his hurt!!! Dogs stop eating through pain and illness!
If your dog has shown aggressive behaviour before this "accident", then you really need to seek professional advice.
Have you spoken to the vet about the cost of repairing his injury? Maybe he could let you come to some sort of payment plan?
What about an animal charity? Could they help you at all?
Please, discuss your options with a vet.if you are not happy with the one you have........find another suitable for your dog.
Whatever happens, please do not let your dog suffer. Do what is best for all concerned. .

Well, I know an agressive dog. He lives on my street. The dog I believe was some kind of pitbull mix and he was always very agressive when I would walk by his yard. He would bark and a few times he tried to bite me. The owners were considering putting him down but then they saw this show on Animal Planet where this man was like a dog whisperer. The one dog was agressive and the man told the owner to tap the dog on its head when it was being aggresive. The owners of the dog on my street tried that and within a day of tapping his head very lightly when he was aggresive, he was rarely aggresive again.

Hope it helps

Try another vet to see if you can help him.

Otherwise, your dog is in pain, afraid and unhappy. Why would you make him go on like this? If he can't be fixed, he must be euthanized for his own good as well as the safety of others.

IF you dont like the way your vet is handling your dog, go to a different vet. you know your dog better than the vet, so if you think hes in pain he prolly is..

good luck

First find a vet you like and trust...and that your dog likes. Second, get the dog in obedience classes for aggresive dogs. They will teach you how to control your dog.
