It is alright to teach kids to be respectful but more importantly make sure you have earned their respect.

You can obtain respect by being truthful and just, by living a happy and productive life that your children will admire, and by not trying too hard to win their affection. If you desperately try to win love by ignoring your own needs, requiring little or nothing of the children, and giving them anything they want, they will not respect you. By all means, you should spend ample time with the children, doing things you both enjoy or things that are simply needed, but also maintain a life and interests of your own.

I agree with Alvaro. Respect first starts with you. I f you do not respect yourself how do you expect your children to. They are like sponges. They draw from us whether we want them to or not.

There is an audio book called How to talk that children will listen and listen that children will Talk. This is a great tool it definitely shed a new light on things for me

Best Wishes!!!!
Children are a blessed gift and the unconditional Love/work we put in we will definitely see in return.

Be consistent. Don't make up rules willy-nilly, and make sure the ones you do have, make sense.

Act respectable.

At some ages, they won't feel respect for you no matter what. But if you act respoectable, you'll be within your rights to require them to treat you as if they respect you.

It has to be a two way street. Show the child respect and he will show you respect.

respect is learned by watching its not a given.you cannot force respect but,you can teach by having respect for others by not yelling or hitting.talking is the key if they are disrespectful you can say thats not exceptable behavior ,if it continues then you start taking things from them, then the reward would be getting it back when their behavior is exceptable.

By being a "role model" for them!
Always letting them see YOU being fair, and honest, and trust worthy, loyal...truthful...and respectful!!!

Consistency is the key!!!
It doesn't mean that you are PERFECT....it just means that you recognize your own mistakes and "short comings"...and that you are NOT afraid to apologize to them, yourself, or any one else!!!
Let them see " YOU " do the "right thing"...(just) BECAUSE it is the right thing to do!!!

Treat THEM with dignity and respect.... and you will EARN their dignity and respect!!!

NEVER "belittle" a child...or try to shame them...or manipulate them...

And remember this:
Respect is EARNED....not DESERVED!!!!

by teaching them basic manners and behaviour towards older people, parents and friends.

if refuses to behave properly, give some medicine ( thrash)
this works if u can manage, will obey and wiil be afraid to make the same mistakes.

this was done to me & my sibling by my mom...that's why our behaviour towards elderly and others are good
