How about researching the effect professional sports has had on developments in injury repair? I had my leg broken in two places as a result of being hit by a car, and just about everything the doctor used in repairing it was first developed for the NFL!

Sports medicine has impacted many areas beyond itself, most notably injuries but also body chemistry, nutrition, drug use and misuse, and the more positive aspects of fitness.

Mostly what you would need for this would be a table showing a particular development (use five or six, with a broad range of applications) being introduced in such and such a year, made famous by such and such a player's injury, and then went on to become a big seller.

People who manufacture medical equipment would be a place to start. Check out that high-tech tool that allows people to get back on their feet (and back in the game) faster because it needs less of an incision. Then look at something simple, like bandages. Or a particular nutritional supplement. Or a special splint or cast for broken bones.

Much of your research will probably be on the Internet, but you may also want to look at medical journals for specific dates and the people that developed a particular technique.
