panic attacks are not very nice and can strike at anytime. What you need to do is stay in control and not let this feeling take over. Sounds easy doesn't it? so here's what to do.
When you feel the panic setting in, tell yourself "Everything is OK. There is NOTHING wrong" Say it over and over.
If this is not working you might try doing this at the same time as pinching your earlobe between your forefinger and your thumb. You mind will focus on the "pain" and not on the panic.

I just answered another person concerning anxiety. If you had agoraphobia, you wouldn't make it out of your house.
The worst thing about panic attacks is associating the attacks with where you are or what you're doing. Yes, the attacks will affect your life if you give into them.
I've been telling a lot of people lately about a book that I read when I had attacks. It's called "Anxiety and You". I don't know if it's still available, but I felt better the moment I read it.
My worst symptom was thinking I was going to die. When I read this book the top two symptoms was the impending feeling of death and associating where you were when an attack hits. I felt so much better after I read the book. Yes, my attacks continued but, I was more informed now.
I have fought my panic attacks and haven't had a major or minor attack in the past fifteen years or so.
Twenty five years ago, when I started having them, my doc wanted to send me to a shrink. Doc's really didn't know about panic attacks back then. I'm not big on pills, but they do have some now that help with these attacks. See your doc, get checked out then talk to her/him about what to do.

I am agoraphobic and I cannot leave my house. It sounds to me like your having panic attacks. The trouble with panic attacks is once youve had one you associate the environment with the attack and the next time your in the same situation you can have more attacks. Try deep breathing when you feel an attack coming on and try to relax, it won't be easy at first, but you will soon find it helpful. As someone else said tell yourself that everything is ok and nothing bad is going to happen to you.
Try going to busy places with someone for a while and disassociate the feelings of anxiety with crowds and ques, you can overcome this if you allow yourself to.
If things get too bad try your doctor to see if you can have some sort of calmer medication for a short while until you can go out without it.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.
Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

I have suffered with agoraphobia for 32 years! I have times that are better than others, you CAN get out of your front door, I have 4 dogs which I walk for miles across common land/ fields etc, but please don't ask me to go to the supermarket or any kinds of shops or on holiday, I haven't had one of those for around 20 years! Agoraphobia literally means a fear of the market place and is not a fear of open spaces as is most commonly thought.
You need to see your doctor, get him/her to come and visit you, there are drugs on the market to help you and counselling sometimes helps as well.

Panic attacks can be part of PTSD (post traumatic stress disease) or just general stress and/or depression. You should see your GP for advice and he will be able to assess whether you need to see someone for some counselling. Hope you get it sorted soon - I had PTSD after being mugged and assaulted in Cape Town and know exactly what a panic attack feels like, so you need to get it sorted out straight away. Good Luck

How are you in social situations ? It could be a form of a Social Phobia. I suffer from this as well as other things and it is`nt easy. The doctors all seam clueless. Just make sure you have friends and family who care about you.

If you are unable to do this on your own, there are loads of practitioners who specialise in these who will be able to help you. Sounds like panic attacks,. not agorophobia. With agorophobia, you wouldn't be able to get out your front door. Consult with a psychologist/psychiatrist.....catch the anxiety issues now before they are blown out of proportion.
