As a GP I suggest Aveeno from the chemists. Diprobase moisturiser is also very good. You also need to look at what make up you are using, hair products and fragrance too. Often facial eczema is not eczema but a thing called Peri-oral Dermatitis and eczema treatments may worsen this. It might be worth your GP referring you to see a dermatologist to have patch testing undertaken to determine if you are actually allergic to anything in particular. You should not use steroids on your face unless prescribed and directed by a doctor.

I think you will have more luck asking your doctor to arrange an appointment with the dermatology department at your nearest hospital.
I used to have slight eczema on my calf, the doctor kept giving me steroid creams which I used for months to absolutely no effect.
Two weeks after seeing a dermatologist and getting some different creams the eczema is completely gone!
Doctors are expected to know so much about a broad range of conditions, whereas as a specialist is obviously only qualified in one area, and they should know their stuff inside out.
If I ever have a problem I always asked to be referred to a specialist as this tends to get things sorted asap.

I too have eczema. My skin dries out really bad and weeps. Makes for a very big problem. My dermatologist recommended Desonide lotion, and Elidel. Neither of these products are greasy and they work really well for me.
I also have to take regular warm baths in Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal. If you've never used this product, it is THE BEST thing for itchy skin. I used to break out in hives from head to toe, and this is the only thing that would make them go away. Anyone that I've given it to, swears by it now too. Just make sure you buy the name brand and not an off brand.
To help treat it internally, I take Evening Primrose capsules and Pau D' Arco. Both can be found at your local health food store. I prefer The Vitamin Shoppe because the quality of their products are consistently good, and their prices are the best I've found.
One more thing......STAY AWAY FROM MILK, CHEESE, and BEEF. These products seem to worsen eczema. Just try it for at least two to three weeks and see if you don't notice a difference. Most dermatologists will tell you this too.
Good luck!!

My little boy had eczema on his cheeks. I was not sure what method to use but I didn't want to make my boy go through any surgery treatments at this young age. Some suggested a plastic surgeon since it was in a very visible location but our family doctor recommend this natural guide.
Best Eczema Treatment?

Bathe only with a mild soap, such as Dove, Basis or Oil of Olay. Use a small amount of soap when bathing. Keep the water temperature cool or warm, not hot. Soaking in the tub for a short time can be good for your skin because the skin's outer layer can absorb water and become less dry. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes. Then use a soft towel to pat your skin dry without rubbing. Immediately after drying, apply a moisturizer to your skin. This helps seal in the moisture.
I was given a Shampoo that I thought was strange but it worked. Ketoconazole is given by prescription but after over 10 years of eczema and even on my face it really worked. Nothing I used over the counter really worked for me.
I don't know how else to get around your job as a lifeguard which maybe one of the major causes why it has gotten so bad. I wish you luck!!!

Did you go to a dermatologist? If so call them and explain what is happening and they can change your treatment.
If you didn't see a dermatologist, that should be your next step.
Over-the-counter products may help but what the MD orders may be better.
Rinse you face immediately after swimming and apply a product like Clear Complexion from Aveeno or another mild facial product that doesn't promote spots.
Don't use a lot of soap (or any). Use just warm water to rinse, shower. Keep your hands off your face and apply products with just washed fingers. Don't use too much product on your face. Try to go without makeup most of the time.
