What is it called? two things. Stupid and ignorant.
I'm Christian, and I don't understand why someone who professes that they have faith and conviction, would be afraid of something like Harry Potter. Its a film. its a book.
Look, if a person can be swayed by a movie, their faith wasn't worth a hill of beans to begin with. It doesn't matter to me if you put the omen in front of me, or narnia or Potter or exorcist - whatever - it has no bearing on my relationship with Christ whatsoever, and if it did, I would have a few doubts about myself.

Narnia is actually written by a christian author, it is a Christian story, therefore acceptable to Christians.
Lord of the Rings was admitted to by Tolkien to have a fundamentaly religious and a Christian message.
Harry Potter, however isn't. And, therefore is unacceptable to some Christians.
I like the Harry Potter series, I think it's fantastic, and I love the fact that so many children are reading more because of JK Rowling. I read it because everyone was making such a big deal about it when the 1st movie came out, that I wanted to see what all the controversy was about. I got SO hooked I couldn't put them down.

I am Christian but I have read them.
Deuteronomy 18:10-12 warns us about the harm of spiritism...included would be magic, divination, spells, curses, spirit mediums, consulting the dead,witchcraft....these are stuff tackled in those books....though not directly doing them, reading them can affect our thinking about the occult and might lead us to the trap of the wicked spirits. That is why reading book that deals about spiritism arent advisable.
People who do not read them, are plainly not curious about spiritism.

Harry Potter was written by some former bum that could'nt be arsed to be original, so she just copied every myth and legend there is about witch crap and wizardry. Besides, plot lines are nil, characters are dull, and who the HELL wants to read about 3 kids who always get into fd up situations?
