Okay, so you've had the dog for 8 of it's first 12 months. Most dogs do all of their bonding and basic learning in the first 5 months of their lives. Greyhounds (rescue-racing) spend this important time on their own for the most part. The best way to deal with this missed window is to take things very slowly. You can teach an old dog new tricks, it just takes a little longer. Even at 1yrs... Oh and good for you to take in a rescue dog!

Is he staring you down or is he just watching what you are doing? In either case the answer is because he is just a puppy. He's curious and learning, and as he ages his personality is really developing. He is interested in what you are doing because you are his human - all good things come from you. If he doesn't keep his eyes on you he might miss out on food, treats or scritching time!

He most likely wants to be petted. (All the time) My dog is like this. And I had another dog, I would wake up in the middle of the night with her staring at me. Nose right in my face.

Nothing to worry about. Just wants quality dog time.

Sightounds do that all the time, hard to imagine what they are thinking.

Sometimes my Whippets will lay there and stare at me for several minutes as if contemplating some deep philosophical meaning of life thing. They are probably trying to hypnotize me, get treats....get treats....get treats...

ahhhh bless, its cause he loves you, when he stares at you again ask him whats the matter, talk to him.
dogs get depressed as well as humans, give him lots of love, dogs enjoy attention just like us humans, give him a teat now and again.
He must trust you, dogs live in packs and he realises who is the boss,he may be a little nervous.
if hes a rescued dog,you may not know in his early life how he was treated.
laughing,listen to me im a 6ft 3 300lb bouncer.....
anyway just look after him,and play ball.
