I have noticed in some questions atheists say things like "Who can believe in that idiot God?" It comes across more like "He sounds like an idiot so I choose not to believe in Him". If you truly believed there was nothing there how could you be mad at the non existent entity? (I do not the definition of an atheist and it is hypothetical regarding a perceived minority within atheists so just be honest and help me understand this.)

I think a small number of Athiests still toy with the concept of God.... how could you not?
I think they struggle with their beliefs because they have never had certain aspects of the bible explained to them properly in the context it is meant to be read in.
Everyone has a backup plan one way or another cos there will always be the... WHAT IF?

I'm no atheist, so I may be out of line by answering, but I'll venture my opinion. I'm sure there will be many who don't agree with me, but that's fine.

I don't believe there is a human being alive that does not truely believe there is a God. Our Spirits are connected to God, were created by God, and that's something no man can do anything about. Just because an individual denies God, or will not accept God, doesn't mean that He doesn't exist, or that the individual doesn't feel a Spiritual pull now and then.

When you hear an atheist make these remarks, it's a subconscious slip that makes its way around all the barriers they've built to try and keep God out.

One other thing. Some Christians may 'hate', because Christians are human beings like everyone else. I know that many are angry, because suddenly it's 'politically incorrect' to have faith. If our president refers to God in an answer to a reporter's question, or to his faith in a speech to the nation, then he's a "fanatical fundamentalist who is trying to shove his religion down our throats." Just because he mentions God? What about freedom of speech for Christians? Not only do we have the same rights as everyone else in this country, but we make up the majority. 83% (abcnews.com) of Americans are Christians.

What is the other 17% afraid of?

let me start off by saying I believe in a God but not the same God 99.9% people believe in. With that said I see a great ignorance in people who read the bible and think they have all the answers for everything. I also see a great ignorance in people who dont read the bible and think they can know what it says or does not say. And I also see a great ignorance in people who believe in science blindly NOTHING I know is 100% 4 sure accept for existance and some might even argue that point... Once you accept existance its all about you and what you believe the world to be. Basicaly we are stuck in a selfish world by design and the only way out that I can see is to live for self and others and when I say others I mean all others. Every lil thing you do has an effect on something else and every thing else imo. So that means if you close your mind to this idea and say self doesnt effect others all others that means you are living in a box as far as I can tell. So the moral of this long story is... Dont trap yourself in a box start living a life for others and self and not just one of the two...

I'm an Atheist. Surely if I hated "God," there would have to be a "God" there to hate right?

Personally, I think that the idea of a hairy, bearded old man sitting above the clouds, who got bored one day, and picked up some modelling clay, and created the World we live in is a ludicrous idea.

In my mind, it goes something like this:

Sun = Nothing

Mars = Nothing

Venus = Nothing

Earth = Shakira, Computers, Broccoli, White Wine

Mercury = Nothing

Jupiter = Nothing

Saturn = Nothing

Uranus = Nothing

Neptune = Nothing

Pluto = Nothing

There's something not quite right there, is there????

And look how similar we are to Apes. Anyway, "God" is not an object of hate to Atheists. He just aint an object at all. Cos he's not there. Otherwise when I flew to Italy last year, I would have bumped into him, right???

Hello Pilgrim,

I think the hate is not in fact hate of God but more of an exasperation with others that don't agree. There is a certain aggression toward people who believe in Christ from a few very vocal Atheists, which perhaps is unfair to the others.

All an Atheist is someone who has not yet found his or her truth. You need to be loving and accepting of this search for their truth. Not judgmental and defensive like many so-called Christians are. Many who think of themselves as atheists just have trouble believing that a god that is supposed to be unconditionally loving could ever allow someone to be judged or punished.

This is a logical question that more Christians need to seriously consider.

A question you might ask yourself is why does this search the atheists are on bother people so much?

If their own faith in what they believe in were strong these things would be irrelevant to them. There must be something about their belief system that they are uncertain about or the questions these atheists pose would not be troubling to them.

Think about this. It is the real key to finding the peace you seek on this issue. The insecurities we have do not originate external to the mind that believes in them. Remember this and it will help you.

Trying to understand is a good first step.

Love and blessings to you.

I think they are saying people must be an idiot to believe in god, not that god is an idiot
I do not believe Athiests are angry, only angry at people who try to push the belief of god onto them...

I am Agnostic

I am reminded of the scene in the movie Forrest Gump where lieutenant Dan, bitter and paraplegic, sat on the deck of the Jenny in a hurricane cursing a God he did not believe in and challenging him to take his life.

How can you hate that which you do not believe exists? And you do not 'choose' not to believe in a god, there is either evidence or these isn't? We atheists in general do not hate half as much as Christians, it takes a certain sort of mindset to hate, atheists generally are not as 'passionate'.

One might be appalled with what the concept of god does to the human spirit but thats a different matter.

on each and every occasion I examine solutions claiming that i've got faith of their god deep down, like those from fundies on your question, i'm each and all of the extra confident that their convictions are based in fantasy. if that they had some variety of line to unquestionably the actuality interior the universe, they'd not be making such laughably fake claims approximately me.
