your not being fair to the dog, if you couldn't afford to care for her responsibly then you shouldn't have her. no vacs puts your dog in great danger to disease and shorter life, plus keeping her without licenses is illegal. if anyone got bitten by your dog without a rabies vac. you'll probably get sued. try checking your humanes to see if they will help you out. or call a few vets tell them your problem and see what they recommend.

First of all, by law it is REQUIRED that she have her rabies vaccine. If she were to bite someone or get bitten from an unknown source, you will only have 2 options: quarantine for 6 months and then the follow-up rabies vaccine or euthanasthia for rabies testing. I do not mean to be harsh, but you should be aware of the consequences if something were to happen.

As far as the rabies vacicne the first one would be considered only good for 1 year. Look for vaccine clinics. Call veterinary hospitals, Petco/PetSmart to fnd out if they have any informaiton on clinics in your area. You will be able to get a rabies vaccine for anywhere from $10-15 (depending on where you live). Keep in mind that you need to get a second rabies vaccine 1 year from the date of the first; the first is only considered good for 1 year. And again, if her rabies vaccine is out-of-date, she is legally considered unvaccinated for rabies.

The vaccine clinics also vaccinate for the DHPP vaccine. Since you dog is an adult, she will require only 1 vaccine. The vaccine will be good for only a year, so again you will have to have it again in another year. Arguably, vaccines are good for a few years but she does not have the immune build-up to allow for this. Once she's had 2 vaccines, then you can consider going to an every three year DHPP schedule. Generally at vaccine clinics charge around $10-15 for this also.

That being said, just as people should get yearly physical exams, so should dogs. It's even more important for dogs because they may not tell you when something is off until the symptoms become very noticeable (this depends a lot on how observant you are, how bonded the two of you are and how stoic your dog is). You should save the $30-60 dollars to get her an exam in the next year. Even if you save $1/day, you'll have the money for the vaccines and an examination in a short period of time. Get yourself a jar or somesort to put away that funds and be sure to only use it for that.

There are also other things that should be done that are equally important. You should have a stool sample checked as she can be carrying intestinal parasites, some of which are contagious to people. You should have her checked for heartworms (transmitted via mosquitos) and get her on heartworm prevention (this prevention also provides protection against intestinal parasites). In addition, she should be on a flea and possibly tick medicine. Use frontline as it is the safest of the products out there (you can also use garlic in the food, but i'm not totally convinced it is effective).

Call a local veterinarian and get the prices for the above items. Start a budget where you put away $1/day towards you dog's expenses. This way you can afford to pay for the routine care. Moreover, it'll mean you have some funds for emergency dog care. It wont be enough to necessarily cover the entire emergency care depending on what happens, but enough to atleast start the process.

Why don't you do some reading up on what the shots are for. Maybe that will give you some motivation to vaccinate your dog. FIND A WAY TO GET THE MONEY. Come on! They're not that expensive...are you telling me that you haven't wasted any money in the last two years? Fast food, alcohol, shopping, unnecessary purchases? Unbelieveable!

EDIT>>>I just read some of your other questions and realized that you're a child. Why don't you explain the necessity of these vaccinations to your parents and have them take the dog.

Why do children (too young ot have a job) ask questions like this?

If you can't get those shots through a feed store or pet store you can order them through Drs Foster and Smith also. Some of you people are extremely rude. For some people 50.00 is too much. I've been there , I know.

Lastly ,the rabies shot does need to be done through the vets office. It should be good for about 3 years.

You can go to your local feed store or farm and supply store and pick up a 7 or 5 in one shot for around 5 dollars. Then you just give the shot in the scruff of your dog's neck. That's the way we do our dog the only shot you'll have to go to a vet for is Rabies. Oh and the vet's and kennel's all excepted the 7 in one shot's so just keep the sticker's off the bottle's.

Try your local feed store. Many local feed stores have a Mobile Vet Unit that show up on the weekends. See if they have one, or call around to your local SPCA and they can tell you where you can go for low cost vaccinations. You should be able to get a rabies shot for about 10 dollars somewhere.

If you can't afford the shots, will you be able to afford her vet treatment if she is seriously ill or injured? Probably not. I know it's a hard decision, but you should seriously think about finding her a new home with owners that can afford to keep her healthy.

most shots last longer then the vet say, but they do need boosters I am really late on my dogs too, don't feel bad, it is just that I need another person to go with me that can handle one dog and my dogs are too heavy to put in the truck and I don't have a back seat and the person that usually helps me got pissed at me for some reason, I do need to get my dogs in also. I have kept them on their heartworm pills though and that is important.

C'mon, shots are what $50-60? You can't afford that? If not, then you can't really afford a dog.

It's a heck of a lot cheaper than trying to treat a disease once she gets it.

At least go to the nearest feed and grain and get a 7-1 for her. Gees its only about 7 bucks.
