I have two and planning on getting a third one. Tattoo's are in fact addictive once you get the first one. Does it hurt? Hell yes, but I'm happy with what I've chose to get tattooed. It hurts and it will be uncomfortable for you, but the pain is not enough to make you cry so you'll get through it. I'd say start off with a small tattoo just so you can experience the pain. If you decide the pain is beareable, then go for something you really want. At most tattoo parlor's, you have to show identification that you are at least 18 before you can get a tattoo. They even make you sign an agreement that you aren't diseased, are not pregnant, and so on. My first tattoo was that of a cross. My second was chinese symbols. My third planned tattoo will be that of my one year old daughter's name. I'm very excited about the third one :-) Anyway, everyone's experience will be different and everyone explains what the pain feels like in their own way. I don't want to scare you, but hey you did ask for us to share our experiences. To me, it just felt like a hot knife being scraped against my skin. In all, I am proud of my tattoo's but I work in a professional field so I don't display them very often. I was about 22 or 23 years old when I got my first one. Overall I would say YES it was a good experience and worth the pain because to me, all of my tattoo's carry a special meaning in my life. I am proud of my tattoos :-) Good luck to you!

Yes, I was 24 and it hurt but it's over with fast unless you're getting a large area done. Tattoos are permanent, so much thought should be put into what and where it'll be and go. If female, a pretty butterfly on the back shoulder blade really detracts when you where a formal gown with spaghetti straps. People don't see a butterfly; just a tattoo. I got mine on the back end right below my bikini line so that it didn't show to the public; just lovers! (It also makes my body easier to identify if I'm in a mangled accident-God forbid!)

i have 4 tattoo's
My first one was done when i was 16. Its on my sholder blade and is an ireland symbol to represent where i come from
My second is on my lower back and is a tribal tattoo. I got it done in a London Tattoo Convention when i was 17. It took 90 minutes to do
My third is on my stomach. It was done like 15 minutes after my 2nd one lol. Its a chinese symbol that means Princess
My 4th was done in Bulgaria this summer when i was 18. Its on my front shoulder and its a PlayBoy Bunny in Pink
I honestly think that the shoulder blade is the worst!! My lower back was surprisingly no problem at all tho it took the longest!
My next tattoo's are going to be an angel on my side, a star on my wrist and a butterfly on my hip. Then thats me done!!

Nope, but I think it is interesting to see what tattoos other people have. I think it tells a lot about them or at least a certain time in their life. The stories about them can be quite revealing.
I would never get a tattoo because I hope to continue growing until I die--I would hope that anything I would choose wouldn't fit me 5 years from now.

I got my "teddy bear" tattoo on my hip on my honeymoon 7 years ago. It took about 30 minutes and it did hurt, but the pain was tolerable. It felt like a sewing needle being dragged along my skin. As part of the healing process, petroleum jelly was applied daily for about a week. It healed nicely and is adorable! I love it, but I don't plan on getting anymore. I just wanted a teddy bear, which I've loved since age 3.

yes. It's a large piece on my upper left shoulder. The pain is a matter of perspective. mine took 2 sittings and it did hurt worse the second time. I got it for my 31st birthday and it was an intensely personal experience. I designed mine myself for lots of different reasons.
I suggest that if you do get one you think of what you really want and make it mean something important to you. Don''t just go in the shop and pick some crappy fairy off the wall. You'll risk getting something that someone else already has.
And it is not bad for your skin to get one, the pigments are too large to enter your bloodstream and the needle doesn't go deep enough to cause damage to your skin matrix. Just make sure your shop is reputable and uses sterile pre packaged needles.
